Virginia Peek Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Peek
Virginia Cecilia Scully was born July 10, 1927 in Henry County, Ia. She passed away peacefully with dignity at the age of 83, from pneumonia. In the days preceding her demise, her children and their spouses, were at her side and given both the privilege & the honor to witness before our eyes, a symbolic, metamorphic reunion with our father. Her smiles and laughter were a comfort for us to share as she was being welcomed home.
She worked at TWA airlines, as a hostess and met our father, who also worked for TWA, on a blind date in 1947 & married February 26, 1949. They settled in Torrance, Ca., were they raised 4 children. She dedicated over 29 years of service & love to others as a hospital volunteer, most recently for Marian Hospital until 2009 & previously for Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, Ca. In 1985, our father retired and they came to Santa Maria and spent the next 10 years traveling in their RV. Our mothers job over the last 60 years was that of an angel. She prayed for our joys and accomplishments, wept for our broken hearts and broken dreams, kissed our bruises & wiped away our tears while always believing & encouraging each of us. With her strength and dedication, she will forever be our role model. She loved cooking for our family dinners and never missed a Dodger game. It was an honor being her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Carl, of 57 years, on May 17, 2006, her parents William T. & Cecilia E. Scully & six siblings; Joanne, Rosemary, Theresa, Jimmy, William & Johnny Scully.
She is survived by two remaining brothers; Daniel (Judi) Scully, of Lincoln, Nebraska and Ted (Dolores) Scully of Des Moines, Iowa. She leaves behind her 4 children; Linda Tate, of Fenton, Missouri, Patty (Roger) Brady, of Laguna Woods, Ca., David Peek, of Torrance, Ca. and her daughter, Lisa (Brad) Mirau of Arroyo Grande, Ca. She loved being Grandma to 6 grandchildren; Natalie, Ryan, Michelle, Jonathan, Leah, Justin, Morgan & Makenna and Great Grandma to Ellie, Hadley and looked forward to a new great grandson due in February.
The family is so ever grateful to the entire staff of Mission View Rehabilitation Center of SLO & Hospice Partners of SLO, for the "un-teachable" act of kindness, compassion & respect given not only to our mother, but our family.
In an intimate memorial service on December 4th, 16 family members released over 24, balloons with notes from our heart, in memory of our mother & her reunion with our father & her family.
A spiritual moment for all of us to witnessed that day, and we were given a gift of knowing, that now heaven is never too far.
