Louise Pelcher Obituary

BALLSTON SPA - Born March 20, 1911, in West Schuyler, the daughter of the late James and Anna Locke, Louise Pelcher became a "lady of the Adirondacks" at the age of 10 days, when by horse and buggy her family moved to Blue Mountain Lake.
She was a graduate of the Lake Placid School in 1928, and in later years Louise would often relate stories of the 1932 Winter Olympic Games to members of the family, their future spouses and friends.
Louise's education continued at the Brockport Normal School, where her studies while enrolled in the newly established three-year course prepared her to teach elementary education specifically in the rural schools of New York state.
Following her college graduation, Louise taught school in Niagara Falls and subsequently migrated back to the Adirondacks to teach in a one-room schoolhouse in the town of Day.
During this period, she met, was courted by and married Harold Pelcher of Lake Pleasant in 1933. The Pelchers were happily married for 51 years. During these years, Louise was a longtime bookkeeper and accountant for Anthony Brady Farrell, a well-known Broadway producer and operator of the Sacandaga Summer Theatre, living on "Farrell's Preserve" in the town of Day, as well as Brownell Lumber and the Brownell Marina.
The Pelchers retired in 1970, moving into the village of Edinburg, with Mrs. Pelcher moving to Ballston Lake and Ballston Spa following the passing of her husband in 1984. Louise's lifetime allowed her to witness the inauguration of 18 presidents, the invention of the television, the two world wars, the first manned space shot, a man on the moon and the flooding of the Sacandaga Valley with the creation of the Great Sacandaga Lake.
Louise was devoted to her family and loved the game of golf, which she played until the age of 92. Louise will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Louise was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1984, and her son, Richard, in 2004.
Surviving members of her family include two children, Patricia (the late Lester) Beninati of Ballston Spa and Barbara (Leroy) Foerster of Orange Grove, Texas; her daughter-in law, Michelle (the late Richard) Spring; 10 grandchildren, Harry (Hye-Suk) Beninati of Anchorage, Alaska, Leslie (Mahlon) Robinson of Northville, Cheryl (Jeffrey) Krams of Rye, Colo., Holli (Mark) Windham of San Antonio, Texas, Christopher (Janice) Foerster of Costa Rica, Paul (Carrie) Foerster of Heath, Texas, Charles Foerster of Costa Rica, Katy (Scott) Mattle of Hilton, Amanda Pelcher of Corning and Danielle Pelcher of Glendale, Calif.; as well as 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Armer Funeral Home Inc., Ballston Spa, with graveside services to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Northville.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one's choice are welcomed.

i was a little girl when my dad was caretaker at the main house. i loved the preserve and the area so much i still think of it often. i wish i could go back and live the rest of my life there. am so sad to have had to move away from that beautiful property. i would give anything to be able to caretake the cabins. what a dream come true. rest in peace louise. i always wondered if she was related to a lady i spent alot of time with' mrs. locke. i always stayed with her more than i stayed at home. i loved her so. she was the cook for all the hunters.

Thinking of you and remembering Louise. She was a wonderful woman. I remember the Farrell preserve and spending time there. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Louise--I couldn't have asked for a better mother-in-law. You knew when to interject advice and when to let us feel our own way. You were a friend and advocate. You were someone that shot straight from the hip and called things as you saw them, which I always appreciated. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for welcoming me and always making me feel like not only a part of your family, but a daughter. You were an amazing lady who lived an incredible, but simple, life. The things you saw in your 101 years boggle the mind! Thank you for sharing those experiences through your many stories. Your legacy will love on in them and in our hearts.
