Gloria, Sheri, Thirkield and my entire family, because that is exacly what you all are to me. I know that your hearts are truly heavy right now, but trust and believe that God knows best. I think of the days in Cloverdale when we were younger, enjoying many days together. It is those memories that I will cherish forever. Byron may not be here physically with us anymore, but the memories we all shared will last forever. I love each of you now, as much as I did when we were kids. We too, will travel this road one day and depart from our love ones , but know that we will all meet again on the other side. When we all get to Heaven, what a wonderful day it will be. I Know that he has a bigger smile in Heaven, than he did here on earth because he is now with the Father.

Mary,
Thank God for you and your commitment to our dear brother. You have truly been an Angel and your unconditional love is a life lesson for all of us. I know that Byron's had a great quality of life thanks to you. In July, we journeyed to Indiana to celebrate 100 years of Kappa Alpha Psi. Because of your commitment to him, he was able to attend and take the pilgrimage to Indiana University that he talked so passionately about in the weeks leading up to the trip. I will forever cherish the time I spent with my brother during his final conclave. You made that happen and I will be forever indebted.
Mary thank you for being in love with Byron, for I know he truly loved you too. You made his final years some of the best years for him. Byron was the epitome of what being a Kappa man was all about. He touched our lives and will continue to serve as a positive inspiration for Gamma Chi for many years. I know that he is in a much better place and that he will remain in the hearts and minds of all the lives he has touched. May God continue to bless you.
Phi Nu Pi Byron, see you at the meeting in chapter invisible.

Byron,
I want to thank you for being a kind and sweet friend who always had a "bright" smile. You did not take life and throw it away but you embraced it and showed others how to do it, also. You have always represented yourself highly and that has made your family, friends, SSU/SSC alumni very proud to know you. Thank you for not changing and continually being yourself. I am joyful that you have peace and will soon be in God's arms. Much love to you my fellow SSU/SSC alumni.

OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul

We will miss you Brother Bright. Until we meet again in Chapter Invisible.

Mary, you have carried yourself with such dignity and grace throughout this entire process. Your spirit and faith is such an inspiration and you have brought so much love to those around you. Please find peace and comfort knowing that in Byron's last years and days on earth he looked to you for love and support and that is what you gave him. You were his best friend and you were there with him until the very end. God will be there to see you through this time of grief that is going to be so very hard to understand, but you are such a strong woman and through the grace and mercy of God, you will make it through. Remember and embrace the love you have for Byron and let him live on through you. His life was as wonderful as it was because of you.

May God wrap his loving arms around the entire family and provide the comfort you all deserve and need during this time. Byron is sleeping in the arms of Jesus and we can praise God for that.

September 9, 2011

Byron was surrounded by so much love during his final days. Fly with the angels now. You are so much better off than any of us left here on earth. You fought a good fight, now rest well. We'll take good care of Mary. You keep your eye on her from above and we will surround her with our love and support here. Fly high, Byron, fly high.

Rev 7:13-17

13 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?”

14 I answered, “Sir, you know.”

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore,

“they are before the throne of God
and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne
will shelter them with his presence.
16 ‘Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them,’[a]
nor any scorching heat.
17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’[b]
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

Byron is in perfect health waiting to greet us when we arrive.
