I would like to express my sympathy to the family on Deke's passing. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him during his FBI days dating back to when he was Asst. Director of the Crime Records Division during the Hoover days. No finer gentleman ever graced the halls of the FBI.

I learned today about Deke's passing away and wanted to write to you to express my sadness. I am sorry for your loss and I hope you can find comfort in the memory of his great spirit and of your loving bond. My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family. May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared and many happy times together comfort you now and in the days ahead. We have lost a great friend and Hilton Head will miss this wonderful community champion who did so much to make the Island a better place for all to enjoy. I am so privileged to have shared his dream of bringing the Arts Center to life. Bravo, bravo dear friend and now rest in peace with our dear Lord and Savior.

I had the opportunity to meet and work with Deke in political activities during the 80's in Beaufort. He was a gentleman all the way around. His wife Barbara is very gracious and a wonderful woman. I will alway cherish the memories of those days.
My thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and the entire family during this time of sorrow and grief.

Thank you all so much for the sentiments. We appreciate the friendship each of you had with my grandfather. From those I see signed below already, he truly valued his close friendship with each one of you and your families. Thank you again for your kind words.
