Edward Mongold Obituary

Mr. Edward L. Mongold - BURLINGTON, NC - Mr. Edward L. Mongold, 84, who resided at the Twin Lakes Community in Burlington, North Carolina, died after a long illness on August 12, 2008, at the Alamance- Caswell Hospice Home in Burlington. Mr. Mongold was born on May, 23, 1924, in Varina, Iowa, the son of Frank D. and Florence H. Mongold. He was married to the former Ruth Ann Ellis of Des Moines, Iowa. Raised in Rockwell City, Iowa, he was a graduate of Rockwell City High School, and studied at the Pennsylvania State University. For more than twenty-five years, Mr. Mongold was employed by the Certain-teed Products Corporation of Valley Forge, PA., where he was Senior Vice-President until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Mongold was also Corporate Vice President for the Bird Corporation, East Walpole, Massachusetts, and retired again in 1986. Mr. Mongold served as a Director of the National Home Improvement Council, Vice President of the National Association Remodeling Industry, President of the National Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association, Vice Chairman of the National Association of Home Builders, and Chairman of the National Council of Housing Industry. Before moving to the Twin Lakes Community, Mr. Mongold resided in Flat Rock, North Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Medfield, Massachusetts; and, Rosemont, Pennsylvania. Mr. Mongold was an avid golfer, musician, reader, and world traveler. He also served as a leader in the churches of which he was an active member, especially in his retirement years. His sense of humor and concern for others endeared him to his many friends, colleagues, and family members. Mr. Mongold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth E. Mongold; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Dianne Mongold of Williamsburg, VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chub Weatherby of Wilmette, IL; three grandsons, Stephen E. Mongold and his wife Renee', John R. Mongold and his wife Sylvia; Ryan Weatherby; and a grandaughter, Sara H. Weatherby. Mr. and Mrs. Mongold also loved and enjoyed their five great-grandchildren, Ben, Kyle, Will, Amelia, and Quinn. A Memorial service will be held in Savannah, Georgia on a date to be announced.
