Adolphus Hill Eller, Jr., - SAVANNAH - Adolphus Hill Eller, Jr., 94, passed away at Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born December 5th, 1913 in Salisbury, NC, he grew up in Winston-Salem, NC. In his youth, he was an avid polo player. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Mr. Eller joined the Army early in World War II and attained the rank of Major in the Mechanized Cavalry. At the end of the war, Mr. Eller was appointed to the staff of the American Ambassador to England. He later became a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and attended the Actors' Studio in New York with many notable actors, including Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe. He had an eventful career as an actor in television and film. In later years Mr. Eller travelled extensively. He visited most of the countries of the world, photographing and filming many of his journeys, which were accompanied by detailed and descriptive diaries. His parents were Laura Newland Eller and Adolphus Hill Eller, Sr., who was a Senior Vice-President of Wachovia Bank and Trust Co. and founder of the Trust Department. Mr. Eller was pre-deceased by his wife, Nell McIntire Eller, his older brother John DeWalden Eller, Sr. and wife Gertrude Seely Eller, nephew John DeWalden Eller, Jr., niece Alice Eller Patterson and her son Frederick Patterson. He is survived by his daughter Catharine Eller Varnedoe and husband Gordon of Savannah, GA, his two granddaughters, Nell McIntire Varnedoe of Savannah, GA and Elise Bond Varnedoe of Atlanta, GA, his nephew, James Carlton Eller and wife Doris of Winston-Salem, NC, and niece Aurelia Gray Eller of Winston-Salem, NC and several great nieces and nephews.
