Mark Steigerwalt Obituary

Mark A. Steigerwalt - SPRINGFIELD - Mark A. Steigerwalt, 84, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012 at his residence after a long illness. Mr. Steigerwalt was a native of Palmerton, PA but lived in Springfield for over the past 50 years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul M.R. Steigerwalt. He was a US Army veteran. Mr. Steigerwalt was a forester employed by and retired from Continental Can Company. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield serving as the Sunday School Superintendent and a Church Council member. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, duck hunting and turkey hunting. He was also a talented wood worker. Mr. Steigerwalt is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty J. Steigerwalt; son, David Steigerwalt; daughters, Karen Gifford and Beth Steigerwalt, all of Springfield, and Jean Hunt (Steven) of Guyton; 3 very loving grandchildren, Kasey Gifford, Cheyenne and Carson Hunt; a brother, Norwood Steigerwalt (Mildred) of Orefield, PA; and several nieces and nephews in PA. Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church fellowship hall on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 1 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2 pm in the sanctuary. Our fondest memories are of Uncle Mark quietly and constantly whittling a block of wood until it was turned into a piece of art. Your family is in our hearts and prayers. Sorry we are unable to attend the memorial.
