Julian Good Obituary

Julian Herman Good, Sr. - SAVANNAH - Julian Herman Good, Sr., died August 18, 2013, of complications from pneumonia in Savannah, Georgia, where he had lived since 2006. He was eighty-two years old. The son of Bertha Goldsmith Good and Louis Kaufman Good, Sr., Julian Good was born in New Orleans and attended Isidore Newman School. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Tulane University and graduated Order of the Coif from Tulane Law School, where he served on the Tulane Law Review. He served in the United States Air Force as an officer in the Judge Advocate General's Department and was discharged as a first lieutenant to return to his hometown of New Orleans to practice law. He was an avid reader and accomplished bridge player. He served on the boards of Isidore Newman School, Metairie Park Country Day School, Jewish Federation, Willow Wood (now Woldenberg Village) and on the Advisory Committee of the Dean of the Tulane Law School. Mr. Good was president of Touro Synagogue and remained active there even after his move to Savannah. Mr. Good was a preeminent real estate lawyer in New Orleans, practicing for over 50 years. As a senior partner at the Lemle & Kelleher law firm, he was the Louisiana counsel for many leading corporate and financial companies. He played an integral role in many of the real estate projects that shape New Orleans today, including Canal Place, Riverwalk, Harrah's Casino and Oakwood Mall. He was also among the first Louisiana attorneys to be admitted to the prestigious American College of Real Estate Attorneys. Mr. Good had an exceptional intellect, was admired and respected by his peers and was a mentor and inspiring force to many younger attorneys who now play leading roles in New Orleans today. His passion for the law and for his New Orleans community was surpassed only by his love for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Peggy Greenwald Good; his son, Julian H. Good, Jr. of New Orleans (Wendy Schornstein Good); his daughters, Lisa Good Dissinger of Philadelphia, PA (Donald Dissinger), and Danyse Good Skelton of Longmont, CO (Steve Skelton); and five grandchildren who adored and admired him: Allison Good, Emily Good, Peter Dissinger, Sam Skelton, and Zoe Skelton. A memorial service will be held at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, August 27, 2013, at Congregation Mickve Israel conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas. Burial will be private. Please omit flowers.
