Robert Umlauf Obituary

Robert J. Umlauf, 81, of 6 Linden Court, Ashland, passed away Monday morning at Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs.

Born in Locustdale, April 2, 1930, he was a son of the late Jacob and Ruth Shields Umlauf.

He was a graduate of the former Ashland High School, Class of 1948, later serving in the Navy on the USS Harwood during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Navy Occupation Korean Service Medal.

After serving his country, he entered his career in insurance, working for the Harleysville Mutual Insurance Co., and later retiring from the Nationwide Insurance Co., where he was a claims adjuster until his retirement in 1985.

During retirement, he worked for Bob Weaver Chevrolet, Pottsville, as a parts delivery man.

Active in Schuylkill County politics, he was a Republican committeeman and was elected to three six-year terms as a Butler Township supervisor.

He was a member of Ashland Lodge 294 F&AM, Prince of Peace Commandery 39, Ashland, and Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Charles and Lewis Umlauf.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Sarah Boyer Umlauf; two sons, William Evans and his wife, Elaine, Wernersville, and Paul Evans and his wife, Jane, Ashland; a sister, Carol Deeter and her husband, Richard, Hegins; a grandson, Chad Evans; nephews, nieces and cousins.

Military graveside funeral services will be held in Christ Church Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to Simpson United Methodist Church, 119 E. Biddle St., Gordon, PA 17936. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of arrangements.
