Irene Mary Shadle

Irene Mary Shadle, 94, of Valley View, died Oct. 9 at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.

Born in Mahantongo Valley, June 7, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Charles S. Deitrich and Mary Ann Brosius Deitrich.

In 1935, she married Howard W. Troutman, Valley View. Together they founded and operated Troutman's Greenhouse until his death in 1954. In 1968, she married Fred E. Shadle, Valley View, who preceded her in death in 1999. Together they managed his farm while she worked at the Valley View Enterprises garment factory, retiring in 1980.

Irene is survived by her sons, Kenneth C. Troutman and Carl L. Troutman; by Kenneth's son, Christopher R. Troutman; by Chris's daughter, Kyra A. Troutman; and by her sister, Maude Murphy and husband, James Murphy.

Irene was a kind, generous person and a valued member of her community. She excelled at gardening and floral arrangements and practiced both for most of her life.

She was an active member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church and volunteered both her culinary and floral skills for many events. She was also actively involved with the Pine Grove Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Interment will be in the Church of God Cemetery in Hegins, beside her first husband, Howard. Graveside services will be private for her immediate family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, PO Box 221, Valley View, PA 17983. Auer Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, was in charge.
