Edward Halaburda Obituary

Edward L. Halaburda, 93, of 102 Morea Road, Frackville, died Saturday at home.

Born in Frackville, Feb. 19, 1920, he was a son of the late Bernard and Josephine Anascavage Halaburda.

Edward served in the Army in World War II.

He retired as a welder from ITT Meyers Industries, Hazleton.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, Frackville, where he served as chairman, and Frackville American Legion Post 398. He was a former supervisor of West Mahanoy Township, past president of Altamont Fire Company and past treasurer of South End Field and Stream Association.

Ed was a former member of the Coal Crackers Polka Association. He played with several area polka bands and was leader of The Polkateers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Palmer Halaburda, in 1975; and two brothers, Bernard and Joseph Halaburda.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Marie Wycheck and her husband, George, Frackville; a son, Edward Halaburda and his wife, Mary Ann, Frackville; a grandson, Edward Halaburda and his wife, Lynda, Frackville; a granddaughter, Melissa Fox and her husband, Christopher, Barto; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Halaburda and his companion, Samantha, and Jacob Halaburda and Matthew and Nathan Fox; one great-great-grandson, Joshua Edward Halaburda; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church, Second and Oak streets, Frackville, with the Rev. Robert Plichta officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with memorial prayers at 7 p.m. and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Nice- Hart Funeral Home Inc., 9 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Polish National Church Memorial Fund at the above address. Interment with military honors will be in St. John the Baptist Polish National Cemetery, West Mahanoy Township. Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., Frackville, is in charge of arrangements. Annie, George and family,
I will miss Ed's stories, our little talks and his secret spots for picking mushrooms. He always had a smile and some story to tell and always had time for me. He will be missed but never forgotten. I feel bad for those who never met him as they are ones who really missed out meeting a great man.
