Philip Fusco Obituary

NEW CASTLE - Philip J. Fusco, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Edgewood Centre. Born in Troy, N.Y., on July 17, 1940 he was the son of Felix and Anna Fusco.

Phil joined Chem-Fab St. Gobain in 1978 and enjoyed a long career wearing many hats to include plant manager in the North Bennington facility, sales, production, manufacturing and business development. He also operated Canton Bio-Medical, near Albany NY in the late 1990's. Phil retired (for the first time) from St. Gobain in 2006.

Under sheer threat of Rita running away from home, he then joined Textiles Coated International, having retired in 2016 due to failing health. You will never meet anyone with a better work ethic or love for his fellow colleagues. He would still be working today had his health allowed.

Survivors include his wife of twenty years Rita McPhee-Fusco; children Maria Fusco and partner Thomas Vanier, Paul Fusco; grandchildren Adam Vanier, Alexandra Fusco, Corina Fusco, Sophia Fusco; great-grandchildren Jackson and Jameson; his dear "sister-cousin" Dianne Walsh; step children Kelly McPhee, Jennifer McPhee; step grandchildren Evan McPhee, Nymeria Sellers; sisters in-law Linda Zacher, Patricia Mason; many cousins; very good friends; and his beloved furry children Mason and Foxy.

The family would like to thank The Edgewood Centre, Beacon Hospice and Jaime, his Senior Helper for the wonderful care given to Philip during his lengthy illness.

SERVICES: Services will be held on Saturday, October 6, at 11 a.m., at the New Castle Congregational Church. Friends invited. Reception and a Celebration of Life to follow at the Portsmouth Yacht Club, 76 Piscataqua St., New Castle, N.H.

Memorials may be made to the NHSPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885 or to the Edgewood Centre Activities/Recreation Fund, 928 South St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements are by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, N.H.

10/20/18
I have probably known Phil longer than anyone other than Maria & Pauly as I got an early start working with Phil at Globe Albany in Buffalo NY from 1970 thru 1976. We kept in touch over the years and he even visited me a couple of times while in San Francisco on business. Later, when I needed a job, it was only because of Phil's efforts that I got a sales position at CHEMFAB. When I flew into Albany late at night, Phil was suffering from the flue and left a sick bed to pick me up to go to Bennington and Merrimack for interviews the next day. And, it was because of Phil's efforts in developing a new product for one of my West Coast customers that I received all sorts of praise in being named salesman of the year. He and I both knew it was only because of his efforts but he would never take credit for it but left all the credit to me as I probably needed it to survive the very recent merger when CHEMFAB was purchased. There were many times when I could have had my head handed to me save for Phil speaking up for me. I was lucky enough to have had a wonderful reminiscing conversation Phil on the 23rd of September, just 7 days before he died. We talked for 38 minutes and Phil's memory was clear as a bell. We had similar senses of humor and in our 48 years of knowing each other, we always had a few laughs when together, and the last conversation was no different.

I retired in 2006 and my wife died in 2010. I had to bite my lip to hold back the tears when a few minutes before her church memorial service here in Walnut Creek, I saw Phil pull up and get out of a rental car to attend. He knew my wife Karen from Buffalo days, but I knew he was there just to support me through the toughest of times. Phil did so much for me in so many ways for which I was never able to repay him, I would have to say he was my best friend. I was not able to attend his memorial service on October 6th. Knowing Phil, he's already forgiven me.

It is with great sadness that my family and I learned of Phil's passing. For many years while he and my husband Ed were at CHEMFAB he was a big part of our lives. His sense of humor and his thoughtfulness were beyond words. Not a Christmas went by that I did not receive a phone call from Phil who was always interested in what was going on with me and my children. Our sympathy goes out to Rita and her wonderful family.

We are sorry to hear of Phil's passing. We are all better for having known Phil. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rita and the family. Although we won't be able to get up there from South Carolina, we will be there in spirit. From the poem High Flight by John Magee "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, ..... Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."
