SEABROOK, N.H. - Richard E. Stackpole, 78, of Seabrook, N.H., and previously Lowell, Mass., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2016, in Newburyport, Mass.

Richard was born in Lowell, on June 14, 1938, to Emilus and Evelyn (Barrows) Stackpole. He was educated in the Lowell school system and graduated from Lowell High School. Richard worked for the New England Telephone Company in Lowell and Lawrence and upon his retirement at Market Basket in Seabrook, N.H.

Richard is survived and will be deeply missed by his daughters, Laurie Maroon and her husband Thomas, and Joellen Stackpole, along with his grandchildren Benjamin and Kaleigh Maroon; his siblings, Robert Stackpole and his wife, Ann, Ann Marie Alves and her husband Daniel, Gail Callan and her husband John; his former wife, Joan Stackpole; several nieces and nephews, cousins, longtime friends and his pal, Buddy.

Richard's family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation for the exceptional care and kind attention given to their father during his stay. They are also grateful for Richard's Constellation Hospice team for their compassionate support through his last days.

SERVICES: At Richard's request there will be no calling hours as he made an anatomical donation to Boston University School of Medicine.

A funeral mass will be held on Dec. 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Church, 1 Lowell St. Seabrook N.H.

If desired, donations can be made in Richard's memory to Constellation Hospice 180 Low St. Newburyport, MA 01950 or to a charity of one's choice.

I had the pleasure of caring for Richard these last few months. I miss seeing him each morning when I arrive to work. He had a way of always putting a smile on my face! I loved, and will never forget, that contagious laugh of his! Fly high with the Angels Richard! You're at peace now!

Joellen, Laurie & Mrs Stackpole,
I have lots of memories of your dad as we were growing up. He was a softie under that sarcastic, gruff exterior, and I used to love hanging out at your house on Stevens St.

I remember your post-Boston Marathon parties, when he would sit in the middle of the living room with his feet in ice buckets, holding court and directing us to bring him beers. He was in his glory.

When I was staying at the beach with Joellen in college, we were all sitting at the kitchen table playing cards and eating popcorn. I looked quickly at the microwave popcorn bag and misunderstood the words on it, and said "Salt Free - like what, were they going to charge you for the salt?" Your dad gasped and pointed at me, then said "Did you really just say that? Seriously? It doesn't say FREE SALT it says SALT FREE! I thought you were a smart college kid!" I was mortified and started laughing. I think every single time I saw him after that he would sneer at me and chuckle. "Free Salt. You're a genius." He made me laugh!

I know it's been a rough year, and he was very lucky to have you all care for him. I hope your memories bring you peace. So sorry for your loss.
