Ella Sirjord Obituary

Ella Rose Sirjord

Ella Rose Sirjord passed away February 11, 2015. All who knew her couldn't help but be touched by this caring, intelligent, talented and thoughtful woman. Ella was born on January 7, 1927 in West Pittsburg, PA. After graduating from Rochester High School in 1945, Ella completed RN training and enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, Ella met and married the love of her life, Air Force Captain Arthur Sirjord, Jr. After mutually discharged from service, they came to live and create a family in his native home, Seattle, WA. Ella and Art formed many lifelong friendships on the love of bridge. Ella excelled as an avid player the rest of her life. But her main focus and talents lay in creating a beautiful and secure home for her beloved family. Ella was masterful in all domestic arts, especially cooking, canning, sewing and crafting. At church, she led many women's circle activities. She loved music, singing, dancing and traveling. Ella is survived by sister Charlotte Lally, Sewickley, PA; daughters Lisa Carol Geraud, Bellevue and Donna Sirjord Ellis, Mercer Island; son-in-law Tom Morio of Bellevue; six grandchildren and nieces and nephews in WA and PA. She was predeceased by her brother Alex Frederick, beloved daughter Pamela Lou Morio and husband Arthur B Sirjord, Jr.

A memorial service will be held February 28th at 10am at Richmond Beach Congregational Church, 1512 NW 195th, Shoreline.

One of my favorite stories from my job was about her and one of her medications. January 1st (2015) her insurance plan changed its formulary and they wanted her to change brands on a medication she had been taking for about 15 years. She called them up and they told her that "All I (the office) had to do is call" and she could get the medication she's been on. I told her I would try but that it was a little more complicated then what they stated. There is a criteria that has to be met for the exception. She said: "They said all you had to do is call." I told her I just wanted to warn her. I would do my best but I may not be able to convince them. She said "You WILL get it approved." I knew that she wouldn't meet the insurance's criteria but I made my best case. I was so worried it wouldn't work because the only argument I had relied on the compassion of the insurance company (not something they are know for having). I just explained her situation: She was an 88 year old woman who had been on this medication for 15 years, that she had terminal illness and it wasn't in her best interest to make her have to switch medication brands at this stage. I was shocked when they approved it. When I let Ella know she just said to me: "I KNEW you would get it done." Thanks, Ella....I wasn't so sure myself. That story still brings a smile to my face.
