Jesse Grigsby Obituary

Jesse Milton Grigsby

Jesse Milton Grigsby died in the arms of his family on December 26th. He was born to Leah L. and Paul H. Grigsby on March 28, 1931 at Seattle Washington and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1949. He attended Linfield College and the University of Washington before serving in the United States Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Klamath on duties in the North Pacific. Like his father, Jess had a penchant for sales and, after his military service, joined Carnation Milk Company in 1956 where he worked for over 30 years in various sales capacities. Jess developed many lasting friendships with colleagues and customers throughout his working life. Jess was an avid boater and summer would find him and his beloved wife of 53 years, Norma, cruising the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands in the company of friends aboard their motorboat Halo Wind. Winter would often find them traveling to distant ports by cruise ship. Jess was active in Bethel Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years where he ushered and served on its board. A true gentleman, Jess's easygoing manner, sense of humor and zest for life will be greatly missed by his adoring family. Surviving are his wife, Norma, daughter Jennifer (Todd) Smith and son Paul (Jolanta) Grigsby and grandchildren Alisa and Stephanie Smith and Nikolas Grigsby.

A memorial service will be held in Bethel Lutheran Church of Shoreline on Friday, January 11 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, consider sending donations to Bethel Lutheran Church, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.

Dear Norma and family,
It was a pleasure to attend Jess's memorial service on Friday--and to learn so much about him. It's always a shame that sometimes we get to know people the best when friends and family share at their memorial services--and we feel that way about Jess. Thank you to your family and friends for sharing in such a beautiful way. May his memory sustain you in these difficult days. Love from up the hill.

Dear Norma, It was a real shock to hear about the loss of ole' Jess. He was such a great and solid individual and there was never anybody I ever worked with over the years that I held in higher regard than Jess. The years we spent together in Tacoma were so very special and when I think of our most enjoyable times, you and Jess always came to mind. Those were some of my favorite years with Carnation and Jess was a big part of that. He makes me think of dependability, consistency, spirituality - a real rock.

Our deepest sympathy goes to you, Paul, Jenifer, their families and all your families and friends. We wish we could be there for the services.

Dear Grigsby Family, as many of you know, I first came into contact with Jesse & Norma while they were on their annual jaunt to Victoria on their boat. How lucky and blessed I felt to be a part of their trips each year. I am saddened for your/our loss, miss him so much. He was very special to me, a mere server, in a restaurant here in Victoria. I looked forward to each and every moment that I got to spend with him. God speed in your journey up to heaven. I miss & love you dearly. Yours truly, Désirée. A.K.A. "MAMA BEAR"
