Joseph Humphreys Obituary

Joseph (JD) Humphreys

Joseph (JD) Humphreys joyous spirit was tragically taken from this earth in the early morning hours of October 21, 2013. JD was born in Seattle Washington on September 26, 1982. He grew up in Kenmore Washington where he attended Lockwood elementary, Kenmore Jr High and Inglemore High School.

Throughout his childhood JD was active soccer player coached by his dad, and boy scouts where he met a number of lifelong friends. Upon graduation moved to Bellingham to attend college. He returned back to Kenmore in 2004. He remained an active soccer fan, loving the Sounders, and became a season ticket holder for the Seahawks.

JD Humphreys was always cheerful who's good hearted nature touched all around him. His friends and family could always count on him for a good joke, a magic trick or a helping hand. He valued those around him, constantly putting their needs above his own and his light hearted nature made him a hit with the kids. He leaves behind; his loving parents Mark and Betty Humphreys and a younger sister Jennifer, 3 aunts, 1 uncle, 19 cousins, many second cousins and several lifelong friends.

Services will be held Sat 10/26 at 1pm with a Viewing at 11am at Wiggin and Sons in Ballard, WA, 2003 NW 57th St, Seattle WA 98107.

In lieu on flowers, the family asks for donation to be made to the Shoreline School District Holiday Fund so children can be blessed in his name.

JD's laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I worked with JD at Oobas maybe 15 years ago and even after all this time, I will never forget his smile, laugh and easy going demeanor. Sending a big hug and lots of love to JD’s family during this time.

We are so saddened to learn of the passing of JD. My daughter and he worked together, and after she left for college, my wife and I would visit the restaurant often. jD would always great us warmly as if we still had a member of the family there! Rest in peace, dear friend.

J.D. My son is also a J.D. -- in a way -- and knowing your mom so well, it's with tremendous sadness that I learned of your passing. I think I may have met you in person once, and when I had my son, and was scared silly, your mom talked SOOO much about you, about you as a child, about you as a teenager, about you as a grown man -- and ALWAYS with pride. ALWAYS with pride. If I can speak of my son with half the care, emotion and love that she speaks of you, I would consider myself very blessed and happy indeed.
I am out of town and not able to attend your service. I am unable to think of anything else except you and your family -- your and their loss, the strength they will need, how much I want to hug your mom and never let her go....
As I stood on the beach this afternoon, about 3:10 p.m.-ish, I was still thinking of you and wondering to God. What was a cloudy day SUDDENLY started to get brighter. I took pictures of the sun as it came over the darkened clouds and clicked away as the sun itself peaked out and then made its full self known. It lasted about an hour, and now it is back to somewhat cloudy. I honestly felt God was smiling and letting me know that you are in SUCH a better place.
I will continue praying for you and your family -- that God be with them and help them with all His strength and might.
Love,
Laura Drinkwine

After high school, I'd only see J.D. every year or two, but every time I did I was reminded of what a genuine, positive person he was. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. His kind nature will live on in all the lives he touched. Rest in peace, J.D.

JD,
Thank you so much for being a life long friend to my cousin, Kyle. Your smile and hilariousness will never be forgotten. Wherever you are, save us a seat at your table, and we will reunite when it's time.

I'll never forget meeting JD at Camp Casey in 5th grade. I had the biggest crush on him. He was so sweet and funny! Then in 7th grade we were in some classes together and we're friends from then on. I had the chance to hangout with you in our early 20's and get to know you all over again. You are such a caring and amazing person. You will be greatly missed. I pray for your family and the pain they must be feeling. You are so missed.

JD: you will be missed so much. I met you seconds into the first day of 7th grade... First period PE, you made me laugh then and continued to do so for many years. Thanks for everything. I don't really have a specific belief system but I hope in some way you and mike are together. I will miss you.

Dear Humphreys Family,

It was my great pleasure to have had JD as a student in my class at Shoreline Community College this fall. He was eager to learn, smart, and always had a smile for me and his fellow classmates. I have been a college instructor for many years and JD was, honestly, one of my favorite students. I will miss his humor and big smile. My deepest sympathies on your loss. Louise Petruzzella
