Karl Griggs Obituary
Karl C. Griggs, age 23, of Lake Forest Park, WA, passed away on July 14, 2014. Karl was an amazing person - kind, brave and sensitive, with a good sense of humor, a brilliant mind and a passion for learning. He was a summa cum laude graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz campus, receiving a B.A. in Anthropology and Classics, both with highest honors. He also received the 2012 UCSC Draznin Classics Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Ancient Greek. Most recently, Karl was attending graduate school at the University of Washington, pursuing a Ph.D in Classics. He was also considering law school and in preparation took the LSAT, scoring above the 98th percentile. He was especially adept at languages and mastered five, including German, French, Latin and Ancient Greek. In his quest for discovery he travelled extensively to unusual places like Lebanon, Egypt and Turkey. He enjoyed skiing, trying interesting food and loved animals. Karl is lovingly remembered by his wife Nataliya Griggs, parents Mark and Phyllis Griggs, sister Naomi Griggs, grandparents George and Wendy Weyerhaeuser and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He was a beautiful soul and will forever be in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in honor of Karl be made in support of rape awareness and prevention (either to an organization of the donor's choice or to RAINN.ORG) or to the Humane Society. A private family service is planned.

Dear Karl,
Life without you is hard. My comforts are our son, our dogs, and cat. What I want is to have a family, but I am trying to be self sufficient. Our son is amazing, smart and very kind - like you. I would love to imagine the wonderful children we could have, that could give good to this world. I think of the baby we lost, it hurts so much because it symbolizes a wonderful life together that is gone. I love you. I hope you are happy wherever you are. I don't think of death as an end, but a beginning of something else. Still, I want you to know, I am your wife.

Hi to the parents and family members of Karl,
As a member of a high IQ society, we knew KArl C Griggs as an exceptional young member back in 2003.
While the discussion forums where of course full of adults and professionals and graduates, Karl was uniquely gifted to bring insight and new information to our discussions.
It is incredible what he achieved by age of 23 years itself.
We all on the internet discussion forum who knew him remember him fondly and will miss him.
It is 2018 and only now that we know Karl has passed away. It is how internet friendships are - difficult to know news about valued virtual friends when they are offline.
My condolences to all his family and friends and thanks also for they made this wonderful pre-teen Karl C Griggs a memorable man.

Karl, I will never forget you. I tried extra hard in Greek so that I could keep up with you, but realized soon after our first class together that such an obstacle would be insurmountable. I am sorry I never got the chance to congratulate you and Nataliya for getting married- I knew you two would. It breaks my heart to know you have left this world at such a young age and married to the most amazing woman I've ever known. Nataliya, please know that my thoughts and prayers will be with you, your family and his. I will never forget how in love you two were, and how much it made me smile to see you two climbing out of the classics library window onto the roof, or how freaking awesome your performance in Aristophanes' "Clouds" was. I wish I had spent more time with you both. Thanks for being my friend. I will always consider you and Nataliya my classics family. Nataliya, I love you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My heart goes out to you, Nataliya, and to all of Karl's family and friends. I consider myself fortunate to have known Karl for the short time that I did. In addition to being brilliant he was also kind, friendly, and always willing to help when I struggled with learning ancient Greek (which was a lot of the time). He will be remembered with fondness and gratitude.

The world has suffered a great loss with the passing of Karl. It was a privilege to have him in my life and I will miss him dearly. He was there for me through difficult times in my life and offered me so much as a friend. 23 is much too young to have lost such an incredible, promising person. Dear Phyllis, Mark, Naomi, and Nataliya,
We are so sorry for your loss. I will never forget his generosity and kindness when he officially had a star named in honor of my infant son who had passed years ago. Karl did this as a child. It was an unusually thoughtful gesture on the part of one so young. We mourn the loss of baby Karl and the little boy we watched grow up into a wonderful, accomplished young man.
