Roberta Mooers Obituary

Roberta Kelley Mooers

The angels came for our loving Mother on September 22, 2016. Roberta Mooers died peacefully at age 88 at the Shoreline home where she and her husband, Dr. David Mooers, lived together and raised their family. Roberta was born in Seattle and graduated from Roosevelt High School and the University of Washington (majoring in home economics), where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. The chance meeting of a handsome veteran at a family gathering in Long Beach, WA sparked a romance that led to 47 years of marriage. After Dave's graduation from dental school in Portland, the new family moved to Seattle where he set up his dental practice while Roberta set up and managed the household and raised three children. She was involved in the Innis Arden Club, Women's University Club, Alpha Phi sorority, the Dental Auxiliary, and University Presbyterian Church. She had many friends through her antiques study group and bridge club. Roberta was the selfless guiding light of her family and was proud of her children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. In recent years, she experienced complications from Parkinson's disease but was able to live comfortably in her home with family close by and with the loving assistance of caregivers Mario Hernandez and Chris McCoy, who kept her actively engaged in life until it was her time to go. Roberta is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Scott) Schmidtman and sons Ray (Sue) Mooers and Kelley (Sue) Mooers; grandchildren Adam Schmidtman, Sandy Scheschuk, Christy Mooers and Devin Mooers; and four great-grandchildren. Roberta was preceded in death by parents Lewis and Maurine Kelley, brother William Kelley, and husband Dr. David Mooers. Her family will miss her very much and treasure the memories of her wonderful life. A memorial and reception to celebrate Roberta's life will be held at University Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to New Horizons Ministries at www.nhmin.org or the Union Gospel Mission at www.ugm.org.

Carolyn, Ray and Kelley,
Your mom was the best. She always had kind words, was an amazing host and a great friend to my mother. If there is another place, I hope that Roberta and Dave and Joan and Joe are enjoying a cruse and that an endless run of silvers are jumping into the boat.

So sorry to learn of your mother's death. Another of our Innis Arden mothers is gone. Glad Roberta was able to remain in her home until the end. She was a classy lady and I was proud to be an Alpha Phi sister.
