Thomas Ward Obituary
Thomas Eric Ward went home to heaven on January 21, 2015. He was born in Santa Monica, Calif. in 1926 to Eric and Irene, and was the first of four sons. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle, where he was affectionately known as "Tiger," and played on the school's first state championship basketball team. Drafted after high school into the Army horse cavalry, he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas alongside his trusted horse "McGenius," before graduating from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in geology. He married Thea, his adoring wife of 64 years, in Seattle in 1950. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for 32 years before retiring at 55, and was most proud of the work he did constructing Libby Dam in Montana. He was a devoted member of Broadview Community UCC and had many hobbies and interests, including stamp collecting and handball. Tom had a loving spirit, was a warm "gentle giant," and had a quick and witty sense of humor loved by all who knew him.
He is remembered with love and affection by his son Eric (Kim), daughter Tina (Kevin), and son-in-law Robert, as well as seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Lisa and brothers Bill and Jack.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the Berean Bible Church, 2345 N. 185th St., Shoreline. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Broadview Community UCC.

Tom and Thea were close friends of my parents, Dave and Muriel Herald. I knew his children Lisa, and Tina. I thought Tom was so warm and friendly. I felt close to the family. It was wonderful seeing them when I attended church at Broadview Community.

Tom was a warm and friendly guy who took great photos. He made everyone around him feel important and included. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Fond memories of watching the four Ward "boys" playing tennis on the Greenlake courts when I was a young girl. You will remain in our hearts forever Uncle Tom. XXXOOO

A gentle giant indeed. My connection to Tom was through the MAC Handball Club and through his son, Eric, when I worked at the Seattle Athletic Club - Northgate. He will always be part of my memories of the good times there as he always greeted me with a smile and a handshake.
