Thomas Starr Obituary

Thomas W. Starr

With great sadness the family of Thomas W. Starr, age 68, of Seattle, WA, announces his passing on Sunday, May 13, 2018 from a motorcycle accident. Born in Schenectady, NY to Wendell and Anna (Andersen) Starr, he is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betha Gutsche, sister Laurel Starr, and a large extended family.

Tom earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1973 and went on to design and build human limb prostheses, then to be a Systems Administrator for Boeing through 2004. He continued his database education and employment in Java, Oracle, and Linux administration and management. In addition to a love of learning, Tom had a zest for life and adventure. He and Betha were avid kayakers and campers. Travel ignited his spirit, be it by kayak, motorcycle, or VW Adventure Wagon. Tom served as Board Secretary for the WA Water Trails Association. Through his ebullient nature and generosity a large network of people have been positively impacted.

Family members will miss his patriarchal role in keeping us all connected through his thoughtful communications.

A Memorial Service is scheduled Thursday, May 31st, 4pm, at Daybreak Star Center in Discovery Park.

In lieu of flowers please send donations in Tom's name to either "Outdoors for All" or "Washington Water Trails https://www.wwta.org/".

To everyone who knew Tom, I'm so sorry. What a guy, he was always so friendly to me. I met him through friends, the many friends that he had. I'm so sad, and glad to have known him. My condolences to Betha and all his family.
