Doris Evelyn Mainer

Doris Evelyn (Greger) MAINER Born June 21, 1925, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 at home in Redmond, Washington of heart and kidney failure, on the morning of August 3, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Greger of Easton, Pennsylvania. Doris was a remarkable lady who was respected by all who knew her. In her early years, she trained as a pilot to ferry planes during WWII. However, when the war ended before she complete her course, she continued her training, worked for commercial airlines for a number of years, and additionally obtained an International Glider Pilot license in Germany. She loved to travel and was an avid skier and rock climber. In 1948 she met her future husband, Captain George W. Mainer of theU.S. Army. Married on July 13, 1952, over the following 57 years of marriage they traveled much of the world, depending on George's military assignments. In 1959 the light of their lives was born, Norman G. Mainer. Doris was a highly intelligent lady who, although not religious, had standards of morals not exercised by many. A perfectionist whatever the task was, she gave it her best. She was a leader, but often chose to work as a dedicated supporter, as appropriate to the project at hand. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She is survived by her husband Lt. Colonel George W. Mainer, USA, retired, son Norman Greger Mainer and his wife Halle Burnham, a brother Harold Greger of Easton, Pennsylvania, three sisters-in-law, Lee Greger of Easton, PA, Oneida Yother of San Diego, CA, Gleta Bailes and her husband David of Colbert, GA as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am in Northampton Memorial Shrine, Green Pond Rd., Palmer Twp., PA There will be no calling hours.
