I. Delbert Dern

I. Delbert DERN 74, of Lynnwood, Wash. died February 14, 2003 following a brief five-month battle with cancer. Born December 24, 1928 in his grandparents' family home in Pendleton, Ore., raised on the ranch at Unity, Ore. and upon discharge from the Army joined his parents who had moved to Edmonds, Wash. Del worked as an auto painter with Totem Pontiac in Seattle, partnered with Grant Hill in Acme Auto Rebuild (Seattle) in the late 1950's and for 30 years until retirement owned and operated Maplewood Auto Paint along with Gordon VanMere, owner of Maplewood Auto Rebuild at 84th and 196th S.W. in Edmonds. Del and Sandy lived in Edmonds for 38 years before moving to Lynnwood in Nov. '96. Del was a member and supported the Nat'l Rifle Assoc., Wash. Arms Collector, C.C.R.K.B.A. and was a firm believer in our 2nd Amendment rights. A special thanks to the Wednesday night dinner gang and crew of The Royal Casino in Everett and to the daily 'Boys Club' coffee clutch and crew at Petosas' for being such great friends to Del. Preceded in death by father and mother, Ralph and Evelyn Dern, brother Clayton and baby daughter Tammy Jo. Survived by wife of 45 years Sandy (Sandberg) Dern, daughters Carol Carter of Hurdle Mills, N.C. and Debbie Dern of Monroe, Wash., cousins Arlene Fulton and Delores Kissire of Ore., Leighton Hilbert and Vernon Hilbert of Wash. and family friend of many years Gladys Ritch of Ore. Please come join the family in a casual dress Celebration/Gathering being held at John Petosas' Restaurant at 176th and Hwy. 99, Lynnwood, Wash. at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2003.
