Anthony William Gray

Anthony William GRAY Anthony William Gray, 85, of Bellevue, Washington, died on February 15, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. Born on October 24, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of William and Stassa Johnides Gray and the brother of George Gray and Anastasia Galos. "Tony" received a B.S. from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and a M.A. from Carnegie-Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a nuclear physicist (senior scientist) at the Westinghouse Bettis Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1988. Tony enjoyed many hobbies, including piloting his Cessna plane, playing golf, jogging daily, coin collecting, teaching physics at local colleges, and world travel. He also spoke Greek fluently. As a faithful parishioner, he was a choir member of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Mt. Lebanon, PA, for many years before relocating to the state of Washington. One of his greatest joys, however, was spending time with - and spoiling - his seven grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Hampers Gray of Bellevue, WA; three sons: William A. Gray of New York, Anthony W. Gray, Jr. of Boxborough, MA, and Louis T. Gray of Bellevue, WA; brother-and sister-in-law Constantine L. and L. Joyce Hampers of Dublin, NH; two nieces: Sandra L. Palmer of New York and Victoria P. Vestuto of Kildeer, IL; four nephews: Peter M. Palmer, Louis C., Marcus J., and Douglas A. Hampers; seven adoring grandchildren: Ashley E., Aaron M., Eleni L. Gray of New York; Anthony W. III and George J. Gray of Boxborough, MA; Maxwell A. and NicholasA. Gray of Bellevue, WA; and three daughter-in-laws: Patricia, Judithanne, and Zoe Gray. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 10:00 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 17 Meriam Street, Lexington, Massachusetts.
