Ardath L. "Toddie" SMITH Toddie left us on January 22, 2011 at the age of 95. The last of seven children, she was born on September 17, 1915 to Alberta and Ralph Ellis in Spokane, Washington and, being the toddler, was immediately nicknamed. She met her future husband, Delmer G. "Tubby" Smith on a blind date and they eloped on November 22,1936 along with her only brother Vern and his fiancee Vi Getman. Eventually settling in Seattle, Toddie and Tubby raised their two children in the house they loved and shared for almost forty years until Tubby's death in 1990. Toddie was a talented seamstress and decorator, and made the most fantastic desserts! After her children were grown, she learned to oil paint, joined the Seattle League of Arts and won prizes for her paintings; she even had one stolen from a show! Toddie loved to travel, and she and Tubby took several cruises as well as trips to Europe and Hawaii. She belonged to the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington, the Analia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Daughter of the Nile. Her last five years were spent at the Hearthstone, where she made new friends, became a Bingo fiend and was lovingly cared for. She is survived by her daughter, Deanne "Dee" and her son, Brian, as well as her sister-in-law Vi Ellis and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at the Hearthstone, 6720 E Green Lake Way N, Seattle, 98103 on Wednesday, February 2, at 3:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to speak a tribute to Toddie is welcome to do so. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in her name may be made to the Hearthstone Memorial Fund at the address above, and to the Virginia Mason Foundation, Critical Care Unit, PO Box 1930, D1-MF, Seattle, 98111.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I never knew Mrs. Smith as "Toddie", but Ardath and my mother were great friends. They often went out to lunch and were proud of their musician sons. They became friends when their kids were at Roosevelt High School. I remember her happy and beautiful, always looking younger than her years.
