Olav Færevaag
March 27, 2011
We were saddened to hear of our brother, brother-in-law and uncle, Baard Farevaag`s passing. We knew his health was getting poorly, but still it was unexpected to us.
Baard was born 25th January 1925 in Tysnes County and he was number 6 out of 7 siblings. His parents name was Jensine and Henrik Farevaag. They moved to Strusshamn in Askøy County (near Bergen) in May 1927.
When Baard was young he played a lot of football (soccer). He was the goalkeeper in Follese Footballclub for two seasons. He also played the clarinet in Strusshamn Music Association for 3-4 years.
When Baard finished school he started to work at Florvaag Bruk A/S as a carpenter. He worked there until he emigrated to the US in 1950.
In 1947 he served in The Independent Norwegian Brigade Group, no 471 (Tysklandsbrigaden nr 471) as a medical personell. This was the first of six brigades. These brigades participated in the post World War II occupation of Germany. They stayed in the UK zone in Germany.
Bard often visited Norway and we remember in the 1960`s when Colleen, Eric and Eirin came with him.
He always talked about how good life was in Seattle together with his family.
Our thoughts and deepest symphaty on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
