Dear Rita, Teresa, Patty, John and treasured Grandchildren:
It is so difficult for me to think that Ben is gone, but the pain is eased somewhat, to know that he has received his heavenly reward. Ben was an inspiration to us all for his courage and his positive attitude. Everytime I called him, he was the one who ended up encouraging me instead of me encouraging him. Ben told me one time that we should always remember the good times. So I hope that you can remember the good times you had with Ben since that is what he would want you to do. Thank you, Ben, for the good times and the good memories.
I love you, Velma

Rita, Patty, John and Teresa,
How blessed am I that you would share your wonderful husband and father with me? Ben has to be one of the kindest men I have ever known. He was always so wonderful to all us kids growing up. The love he had for us made us feel like we were one of his own! I can only hope my children will have such great memories and love as you do, because of the tremendous heart he shared with us all.
Peace, Jill Merculief/Schnabel

What can I say except Ben was exceptional! His positive attitude and sense of humor was endearing. He was generous of spirit and generous of his time. I remember when he would take Jake fishing and spend time with him - he was the grandfather I always wanted for my children. I was also impressed by his devotion to Rita and his children. Ben had a way of dealing with life as he cooked... a cup of common sense and a dash of humor - his own unique blend. I will miss you dear Ben.

To Rita, Teresa, Patty, and John: I was saddened to read about Ben in today's paper. Ben was a kind and gentle man. Big Ben! He was there when you needed him (rescued me when I ran out of gas!) and took Scott and Sean on much appreciated fishing expeditions. Thank you, Ben. With love, Judy
