Benjamin Hayes Obituary

Benjamin Frank HAYES Age 75, of Kirkland, WA passed away on 1/11/11 surrounded and comforted by his loving family. Born in Snyder, OK, he was the son of Floy and Ward and the brother of Blaine. Ben was the devoted husband of Rita for 50 years. He was the proud father of daughters Teresa (Jorn) and Patty (Jim) and son John. "Papa" cherished his grandchildren Noah, Hannah, Summer and Bailey. He remained close to his sister-in-law Sarah and cousins from Texas and Oklahoma; Panzie, Panatha, Jimmie, Velma, Barbara, Lanny and Doris. He treasured time spent with his many nieces and nephews. Ben's greatest love was his family, his joy was fishing and his passion was cooking. He shared his love of the outdoors by taking his family camping in the San Juan Islands. His favorite pastime was fishing, over which he developed many lasting friendships. Ben was a veteran and learned to cook in the Army. He enjoyed cooking throughout his life, creating delicious meals out of the most basic ingredients. For the record, he made the best gravy ever! Ben touched many lives with his humor and generous spirit. Services are pending. Many thanks to Evergreen Hospital's CCU nurses Sarah, Saovapa and Jo. Thank you also to the caring staff at Life Care Center Kirkland. Special Thanks to Dr. Vossler and Dr. Lonergan.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Rita, Teresa, Patty, John and treasured Grandchildren:

It is so difficult for me to think that Ben is gone, but the pain is eased somewhat, to know that he has received his heavenly reward. Ben was an inspiration to us all for his courage and his positive attitude. Everytime I called him, he was the one who ended up encouraging me instead of me encouraging him. Ben told me one time that we should always remember the good times. So I hope that you can remember the good times you had with Ben since that is what he would want you to do. Thank you, Ben, for the good times and the good memories.
I love you, Velma

Rita, Patty, John and Teresa,

How blessed am I that you would share your wonderful husband and father with me? Ben has to be one of the kindest men I have ever known. He was always so wonderful to all us kids growing up. The love he had for us made us feel like we were one of his own! I can only hope my children will have such great memories and love as you do, because of the tremendous heart he shared with us all.
Peace, Jill Merculief/Schnabel

"May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word".

What can I say except Ben was exceptional! His positive attitude and sense of humor was endearing. He was generous of spirit and generous of his time. I remember when he would take Jake fishing and spend time with him - he was the grandfather I always wanted for my children. I was also impressed by his devotion to Rita and his children. Ben had a way of dealing with life as he cooked... a cup of common sense and a dash of humor - his own unique blend. I will miss you dear Ben.

To Rita, Teresa, Patty, and John: I was saddened to read about Ben in today's paper. Ben was a kind and gentle man. Big Ben! He was there when you needed him (rescued me when I ran out of gas!) and took Scott and Sean on much appreciated fishing expeditions. Thank you, Ben. With love, Judy
