Brian Joseph Dickie

Brian Joseph DICKIE June 26, 1949 - March 22, 2011 Brian died peacefully at home Tuesday morning following a 13 month fight with brain cancer. His honorable life began in Edmonton Alberta, born to Arthur and Joan Dickie. In 1954 the family moved to North Seattle, where Brian attended Inglemoor High School and was an accomplished wrestler, graduating in 1967. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969, Brian served two years in Geissen, Germany in the Operations and Intelligence section of the 3/79th Artillery. Following his service Brian graduated from the University of Washington in 1976 with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing Communications. In 1977 Brian began a 33 year career with Vandermeer Forest Products as a salesman. His strong work ethic and business acumen were recognized and rewarded throughout the years with consistent promotions. Brian eventually acquired the business with a partner in 2007. An avid skier, Brian traveled North America extensively in pursuit of challenging terrain and champagne powder - eventually settling upon Whistler Mountain as a favorite despite the occasional Cascade Concrete. In 1998 Brian discovered a new passion in golf. As a natural and dedicated athlete, it did not take long for his handicap to reach single digits. His opponents did not always appreciate his near perfect knowledge of the rule book, but his teammates certainly did. Brian was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 20 years, Eleanor Thompson, daughters Jennifer Rodriguez (nee Jennifer Dickie), Alison Marra and Tasya Marra Demers, brothers Sherwood (Mary Ann), Keith (Kathie), cousin Ray Hanley (Kim), numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren Leila and Ava Rodriguez and Nicolas and Benjamin Demers. Brian will be remembered for his well defined moral code, sharp wit, wisdom and compassion for others.
