Cheryl Wedeking Obituary

Cheryl Ann WEDEKING Cheryl Ann Wedeking of Whibey Island, WA went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 18th after a five month battle with cancer. She was born on August 1, 1951 to Paul & Myrtis Petersen of Bellevue, WA. Graduating from Bellevue High School in 1969, she went on to attend Azusa Pacific University where she graduated in 1973. Cheryl grew up attending Calvary Christian Assembly in Seattle. She met her husband Ron Wedeking while volunteering on staff with Young Life and they were married on March 19, 1976. Throughout her married life she attended numerous churches where she assisted her husband as he served on pastoral staff. Favorite memories include summers at the family home on Bainbridge Island and relationships with countless friends. She enjoyed gourmet cooking and won numerous contests and awards. She loved being a member of a biking club on Mercer Island and enjoyed teaching children's tennis at the Bellevue Club for fifteen years. Gardening was also a passion of hers and, in particular she enjoyed tending a garden on Whidbey Island called 'Twisted Tree'. Over the past 5 years she developed many friends on the Island, who became the close-knit center of her life. She loved walks on the beach and spending time there with her children and grandchildren. The greatest joy and accomplishment of her life was raising her children in the ways of the Lord. Her family and friends will remember her gift of hospitality, her passion for life, her positive and encouraging outlook and her unending service to the Lord. She is survived by her husband, Ron Wedeking, her children, Kelly Simants of Frisco, Texas, Kirsten Lile of Issaquah, and Ryan Wedeking of Beijing, China, her grandchildren Taylor, Jackson, and Carson, her parents Paul and Myrtis Petersen of Bellevue, her brother, Paul Petersen Jr. of Bellingham, sister, Janine Ridings of Snohomish, and sister, Pam Tallman of Lake Oswego, Oregon. A public Memorial Service celebrating Cheryl's life will be held at Mercer Island Covenant Church on Friday, January 21st at 4:00pm. Memorial gifts can be designated to Mercer Island Young Life for their camp scholarship fund in Cheryl's name. Mercer Island Young Life - P.O. Box 409, Mercer Island, WA 98040.

My name is Patty (Foubert) Lefeber, I went to Bellevue High School with Cheryl. I am so sorry to hear of her passing, yet happy because I know without a doubt she is safe in the arms of the Lord. I remember her always having a smile on her face, such a lovely person. We were involved in clubs together at BHS, and spent time together outside of school, so many fond memories of great fun with her. She had a great love of the Lord and passes that on to everyone she knew. Rest well in Heaven Cheryl. Love, Patty

Cheryl walked ever so gracefully into the arms of the Lord.....she set such an amazing example....as well as her family-setting the bar ever so high in allowing Cheryl dignity to the very last breath she took. It has been an honor to walk distantly on the journey.
