David Lewis Obituary

David Crowell LEWIS David "Dave" Crowell Lewis, 60, died at home in Seattle on December 12, 2009, following a fight with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his son, Kael Davidson Lewis, and his daughter, Emily Rose Lewis, both of Bainbridge Island; his sister, Diana Lewis Woodward of Sutherlin, OR; his brother, John Dayton Lewis of Kirkland, WA; and his partner, Anne DeBruyn. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Phyllis Carlotta Fullen Lewis and Clarence Edward Lewis of Bellevue, WA and Pauma Valley, CA; and a brother, Stephen Edward Lewis of Roseburg, OR. Born in Los Angeles on October 28th, 1949, Dave has lived his life in the Puget Sound as a long-time resident of Bainbridge Island, as well as Bellevue and Seattle. He was a graduate of Bellevue High School and Western Washington University, in Bellingham, where he remained a member of the Western Washington University Alumni Association. A Production Engineer for the Boeing Company until his death, Dave had a 20-year career with the company and was a member of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA). He was an avid sailor and a member of the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association. Just last year, Dave and his son Kael had placed first in the 2008 District 6 Star Boat Racing Championship. Dave will be remembered as a devoted father, loving brother, faithful friend and loyal and nurturing partner. He had a passion for sailing that could only be matched by his love for his children and those closest to him. A youthful spirit and love for the wind and waves will be his legacy to all who were fortunate enough to be in his life. His remains will be spread in the Pacific Northwest waters that he loved so dearly.

I have another family member with pancreatic cancer. It is a sad indeed to hear this news. I have known Dave for years and he was always a first class guy. His enthusiasm for life was grand.

My sincere condolences,

I worked with Dave since 1994 in the ME Wing groups across all wing lines. He was always helpful to the new as well as the old timers around here. He had an infectious smile and as some mentioned a very mellow demeanor. I am a better person for having known Dave and I will miss him.

I had the privilege of working with
Dave on the 777 and 767 programs at Boeing. He was a great guy. No matter how busy or hectic things became, he was always ready to help with a smile. I can't believe he's no longer with us. He will be very much missed by so many.

I worked with Dave several years ago and was luccky to be a friend of his. I'm shocked and saddened at the news of his passing and will miss the occasions that I was able to sit and talk with him about anything/everything and nothing at the same time. I will miss his quick wit and sense of humor. All my best to his Family.

He was my loving older brother who always wanted to know how my children were doing! He fell in love with sail boats at the age of eight when our Dad bought a Star boat and started refinishing it in our garage. It never left him, he took sailing lessons in Newport Beach, CA and was racing every weekend from 10-15 years of age.
He found his first job out of college building sailboats for Miller construction on Bainbridge Island and raced in the Victoria to Maui race three times!
I loved his positive and kind demeanor even after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He lost the battle after only 4 months, it is a vile disease and we need to find a way to detect it much earlier. I love you and miss you. Your sis, Diana
