Donna Kelly Obituary

Donna Jean Schaplow Kelly

Donna Schaplow Kelly passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2017. Born in Vancouver, Washington, on April 4, 1945, she was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Samuel E. Kelly. She is survived by her loving family: Heather Blackthorn, of Vancouver, Washington, and grandchildren Cecelia and Malcolm; Sam Kelly, Jr., of Seattle, Washington; William Kelly, Brenda Kelly, Sharon Kelly-North, and grandson Madison North. She is also survived by her brothers Gary Schaplow and Don Schaplow. Throughout her entire life and career Donna was a known ally for educational and equal rights. Her grace, optimism, and spirit influenced everyone who knew her both personally and professionally. In her life's work she strived to make the world a more peaceful place, and truly believed in the inherent good of people. In lieu of flowers, Donna requested that donations be made to the Dr. Samuel E. Kelly Scholarship Fund through the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity at the University of Washington, or the Washougal High School Scholarship Fund in Washougal, Washington. At Donna's request there will no public service. The family will be celebrating her life privately and encourages others to do so as well.

My sincere condolences to the Kelly family during this difficult time. May you trust and draw strength from God( Isa 12:2) and the loving support of family and friends.

I was sorry to hear about Donna's passing. I worked with her many years ago in the U.W.'s Employment Office where we both worked as interviewers. She was married to Bob Sanford at the time. I knew later that they had divorced and she went on to marry Sam.
I knew Donna as an exceptionally bright and caring woman who was destined to go on to bigger things. My sympathies to her family.
