Douglas Brown Obituary

Douglas Frann BROWN Doug was born August 15, 1951. He was one of five children, all of whom counted on him for his leadership and guidance after his father died in 1969. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1970 and married his high-school sweetheart Nancy Ann Reynolds in 1971. He served in the Army for three years. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Civil Engineering in 1982. In 1991 he and Nancy and their children Kimberly and Jason moved to Vashon Island. He worked for King County since 1986 as a building inspector and then as as an engineer in Water and Land Resources where he worked on flood control and salmon restoration. He served as president of IFPTE Local 17 for three years. He built two homes for his family and helped two siblings with their homes. In 2010 he developed leukemia and had a bone marrow transplant in September. He struggled with the side effects of immune suppression and developed pneumonia; he died peacefully on May 31, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Jason (Angie) Brown, daughter Kimberly (Rico) Gallo, precious granddaughter Fiona Sophia Gallo, his mother Viola Brown McCartney, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. His grandson Jackson Douglas Brown is due any day. He loved to fish, boat, dig clams, work on his house, and spend time with family and friends. Doug was our rock and anchor and though he will be sorely missed, we will determinedly enjoy life and love each other deeply as we know he would have it no other way. A celebration of Doug's life was held Saturday, June 11. Sign Doug's on-line Guest Book at www.Legacy.com.

I miss Doug. I miss his friendship. It's hard to believe he is gone. We didn't talk that often, but it was comforting to know he would be there with his sage advice whenever I needed a big brother perspective, or a good laugh, he could be so funny.

When I recently drove past our old neighborhood, and saw Hamilton and Lincoln and the football fields where he practiced, my memories played back to us as kids, what now seems like a lifetime ago. It seems so odd that the memory is intact, but that he is no longer here to share those days, those memories.

I know to those he loved dearly, his family, your loss must feel immeasurable. He cared so dearly about you all. In fact, I know many of your stories, as he asked for prayers for you when you were going through rough times, he cared that much.

You were given a precious gift, a husband, father, son, brother, who was a true champion, fighting till the end. May the Lord bless you all during your time of grief.

The world is indeed a sadder place when one so loved and loving moves on.

With my sincere condolences,
Betsy Diedrick

Nancy,
I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss of Doug. I can't imagine what you have gone through and now to face life without your companion best friend. My husband and I have been married for 38 years, and we treasure each one. I'm confident you did the same. And it sounds like Doug was a much loved guy who cared very much about others. I pray for a peace of heart and mind for you and your family, and strength to get through each day. Your fellow Lincoln Alum, Kathy Ladd Fader
