Enid Eshom Obituary

Enid Parks ESHOM Our beloved Enid, a longtime resident of Bainbridge Island, died at Hospice of Kitsap County on March 13, 2011. Born in The Palouse on October 24, 1912, she grew up in Seattle, attended Lincoln High School (Class of 1930), Washington State College, and the University of Washington. She married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Foley Eshom in 1934, during the height of the Great Depression, and moved to Bainbridge Island where they rented 'The Castle' (a miniscule cabin) under the water tower at Ferncliff. They moved back into town to raise their family before returning to the Island in 1968. Intrepid travelers, Enid and Len enjoyed many overseas trips prior to his death in 1995. Her talent in the art of bonsai led her to China in 1981 where she visited several renown bonsai collections. Enid's serene garden reflects her appreciation of this oriental art form. A longtime supporter of many Bainbridge charitable organizations, she was also a founding member of the Dr. James H. Mathews Guild of Children's Hospital, and a former member of The Arboretum Foundation, The Bloedel Reserve, The Pacific Northwest Ornamental and Horticultural Society, The Seattle Yacht Club, and The Sunset Club. In addition to her family, Enid will be greatly missed by her many dear friends and neighbors who have been so supportive of her, especially these last few years. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Beards (Richard) and Sharon Eshom, as well as Sharon's children; Jon Halvorsen, Peter Halvorsen, Anna Marlowe, and their families. We are especially grateful for the loving care she received from Bobbie Austin. No services at her request; however, please think of Enid when you step into your garden on a fresh spring morning. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Remembrances suggested to Helpline House, the Bainbridge Library, or a charity of your choice.

I have such wonderful memories of Aunt Enid; vacations in Seattle, blueberry pies. I alway loved when she and Uncle Len would come to visit us. I especially remember my last visit with her in 1994 when she came to California for our daughter's wedding. She brought fresh crab and smoked salmon! God bless all of you.
