Gilbert Green Obituary

Gilbert GREEN Gilbert Green was born in Portland OR on February 14, 1919 to Frank and Elizabeth Green and went home to be with his Lord on February 4, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie, on December 10, 2010. Gil grew up with his five siblings on Queen Anne hill and graduated from Queen Anne High School. He learned the value of hard work early on, spending his summers in Alaska working with his father and brothers in the fish canneries. Following High School, Gil went to Edison Vocational Training School where he was trained and certified as an electrician. After a period at Todd Shipyard, Gil was able to secure an apprenticeship at Seattle City Light. Gil enjoyed working in the Range Service Department, being in the truck, visiting people's homes, repairing their electrical appliances and spreading cheers and smiles. Much later, Gil worked in dispatching until he retired. Not one to "sit on the fat of the land" as he use to say, Gil continued to work after his retirement as a maintenance person for Seattle Mental Health and Temple De Hirsch until he retired for the last time. Retired but not stopped, Gil continued to enjoy his life-long job of helping others with their home maintenance and repair projects. He referred to these as Low Bid Jobs. It was during one of his early L.B.Js. that he met Winnie Kemp. They married in 1959 joining forces and families. Traveling with Winnie, Gil visited Europe, China, Israel, Egypt, and India. When Gil did slow down a bit he was happy to finally get his stamp collections in order, E Mail his pen pals, and spread Cheers and Smiles. Gilbert is survived by his brother Joseph, his brother Jack (Jane) daughter Barbara De Chene (Skip), son Steven (Cyndi) step-daughter Laura Smith (Josh), and step-son Richard Kemp, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on February 19th at 2:00 p.m. at Acacia Memorial Park, Bothell WA . In honor of Gil please make a donation to your local food bank.
