Gloria Joanne DAVIS Gloria Joanne Davis, lovingly known as Grandma Glo, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2011, in Issaquah, Washington. She was 90 years old. Glo was the only child of Ralph and Helen Scarano, born on April 2, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up in Cleveland and attended college at Ohio University where she met and fell in love with Ross Davis. They married in 1940. Glo and Ross, a High School Band Director, made their home in Ohio and throughout the midwest before settling in California in 1950. Glo spent these happy years as a busy homemaker and devoted mother to her three children. Ross and Glo divorced in 1965 and shortly thereafter she completed her BA in Journalism. Her three children proudly attended her graduation from Cal State Fullerton in 1968. Glo began her career working for newspapers in Orange County, California. In 1969, she moved to Seattle and was immediately hired by the University of Washington where she worked until her retirement in 1988. Glo was known and respected by many at the UW and finished her career as Manager of Temporary Services, assigning more than 200 employees each month to serve throughout campus. Following retirement, Glo volunteered at Hopelink, Election Precincts, the US Census Bureau, and her church. She lived for many years in Queen Anne, followed by Bellevue and Redmond. Glo's passions included cooking, good restaurants, theater, reading, Husky Football, her beloved Seattle Mariners (a member of the Seattle Mariners Women's Club) , ferry boat rides and travel. She saw the world on 13 cruises and claimed Australia as her favorite destination. Glo's family was her greatest passion, by far, and she offered them boundless love and support. Eager to share her Italian heritage, Glo was famous for hosting large Italian feasts for family and friends. She was the supreme hostess creating legendary food and joyous memories around her table. Grandma Glo will be greatly missed by her children: Connie Jo (Jerry) Brower of Des Moines, Washington; Keith (Jonathan) Davis of Lisbon, Portugal; and Frank (Gretchen) Davis of Issaquah, Washington. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren: Doug, Mark, Rachel, Kara, and Tyler and her 4 great grandchildren: Jessica, DJ, Joe, and Kayla. Glo also leaves a huge network of friends that enriched her life. A celebration of Life will be held for Glo at 4:00pm on Saturday, April 9th at Overlake Park Presbyterian Church, 1836 156th AVE NE, Bellevue, WA 98007 (425)746-8080. In lieu of flowers, Glo requested that donations be made to Hopelink, P.O. Box 3577, Redmond, WA 98073; 425-869-6000.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Glo came into my life when I married her "only nephew", this is a joke between her and Larry. He would call her and say this is your favorite nephew and she would always reply"HA, you are my only nephew! then she would laugh at her own joke. We enjoyed going to the Village theatre with her on a Sunday afternoon and then off to one of her favourite Italian places for calamari or osso bocco or almost any kind of fish, and always a nice glass of wine. She had a heart big enough to love all the people that loved her. I always felt special when I was with her. Glo I will miss you very much and I'll always look for you in the garden.

If Glo counted you among her friends, you were a friend for life. I was very lucky to have been among that number.

As Ronald Reagan once said--
"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. Grandma Glo didn't have that problem."
OK....so he said that about the Marines, not Grandma Glo. But he could have.
If you knew her, she made an impact on your life.

Glo was also "Grandma Glo" to the friends of her children. To say her family was her passion is an understatement. She never missed an opportunity to say how proud she was of her children, grandchildren & especially her great grandchildren. She truly glowed while talking about them. She also never missed an opportunity to ask how you & your family were doing and wask what was going on in your life.
I will always remember her sparkling eyes & her wide smile when she greeted you and her wonderful laugh. I remember her asking me on several occasions "did you see the Husky or Mariners game". I'd reply well, no...and she would quickly say, "well you missed a great game" and add I really would have enjoyed it.
I will think of her during the Mariner's opening home game & know she's cheering from the best seat in the house.
Glo will be missed by her loving family and many friends.

I will always think of Glo fondly and will always remember how cute she looked at Overlake Hospital and how sweet she was that day. She was ready to say goodbye but I wasn’t ready to let go. The thought of her spending her 91st Birthday out of pain and on her feet again gives me great comfort. An angel in flight watching over her family and friends. You will be missed! Merry

Glo was a member of Campus Business & Professional Women from about 1979 through 1989. She was a delight to be around. I was in my early 30s at the time and remember her genuine concern for me and for Campus BPW. We had many good meetings which she helped to arrange and we cherished the potlucks we had when she was able to attend. Glo was always so thoughtful and caring; but never judgmental. We love you dearly.
