Huber Grimm Obituary

Huber Keith GRIMM, MD September 6, 1920 ~ February 18, 2011 Huber Grimm was born the second son to UW All-American Huber "Polly" Grimm and Emma Grimm, in Centralia and attended Centralia High School. After graduating in 1938, Huber entered the University of Washington and played freshman football. He enrolled in the San Francisco College of Embalming and in 1939 received his license as an embalmer and funeral director, working as a circuit embalmer for numerous funeral homes in the Greater Seattle area during the war. Huber entered Seattle University in 1942 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1945. Huber attended Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where here received his medical degree in 1949, and received his certification in General Practice and General Surgery at Seattle's Providence Hospital in 1951. As an intern at Providence, Dr. Grimm began his 30-year tenure as team physician for Seattle University, providing medical services to hundreds of athletes and their families during the Golden Years of Seattle University basketball, as well as serving as team physician at Seattle Preparatory School. Dr. Grimm was inducted to the Seattle University Athletic Hall of Fame three times, once as an individual and twice as a team member of the 1957-58 and 1962-63 basketball squads. As a physician, Dr. Grimm served as a captain in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1952-54 and was a surgeon and Medical Commander at Camp Irwin in Barstow, CA. Upon his return, Dr. Grimm opened his medical practice in Seattle, serving the community for 42 years until 1996. During that time, Dr. Grimm delivered thousands of babies and provided medical assistance to underprivileged families. He served on numerous professional boards and was Past President of Washington State Academy of Family Physicians, King County Blue Shield, King County Medical Services Corporation, and Washington State Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Grimm married his wife Georgia MacAdam in 1944. They settled in Capitol Hill, raising ten children. After Georgia's untimely death, Dr. Grimm married Mary Lancaster in 1998. His children are grateful for the devoted and loving care she provided during his long illness. Dr. Grimm was an avid boater his entire life, owning numerous boats and was especially fond of his 1954 Chris Craft, GEE GEE owned for 31 years. Dr. Grimm joined Queen City Yacht Club in 1960 and was an active member, serving as Fleet Surgeon, board member, Chairman of the Board, and chairman of numerous committees. He loved cruising the waters of Puget Sound and Canada and loved working on his boat. Dr. Grimm was also a charter member of the Seattle Seafair Clowns and was a Past President of the associated Seattle University Graduates Club. I am so sorry I missed Dr Grimm's dying and service. He was a wonderful doctor. I saw him often in his Providence days roaming the halls or in patient rooms. His patients loved him and I always admired his kindness and concern for them. He had a remarkable capacity to remember names.. The last I saw of doctor was in sojourn he made to Cherry Hill a year or so ago. I had the opportunity to minister to him at that time and have some chats of the old days. I have had to cut back on my Volunteer days lately so miss a lot. He is a few years my senior. I know S>U> will hold his memory with great fondness and appreciationI bless him and you in your loss, but know he earned heaven a long time ago. In Providence.Sister M.Clare Boland, SP

My brother and I have so many wonderful memories of our time spent at Winslow when we were young. Of course your family was always there adding to the festivities on your family boat, the Gee Gee. My grandparents, Don & Maxine, really enjoyed spending time with your dad and mom. They so enjoyed each others humor. We were at the Husky vs Seattle U game at Key Arena when they held a moment of silence for your Dad. Very special. I know he will be greatly missed by all of you. He was truly a wonderful man.

Dear Grimm Family,
I had the good fortune of moving across the alley from Huber and Georgia on East Boston Street (where I still reside) in 1981. They enlivened every neighborhood party they attended (I can still hear them singing). I recall Huber's hilarious recounting of one of their mishaps with a boat grounding at Shilshoe. They were great fun and fine neighbors.
The summer after we moved in, Scott and Pat painted our entire house inside and out. Huber lived a great life and his children are a wonderful legacy.

Grimms, I am so sorry I missed the services but I was not in town.
Doc Grimm made such an impact on my life as a Prep Panther and at Seattle U. The years I worked with the Chiefs in the late 60's and early 70's, Huber opened doors for me and initiated relationships. He was awesome. Some of the most enjoyable times of my life. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Dear Grimm Family,
My memories of boating and Queen City Yacht Club would not be the same without memories of the entire Grimm family. Your father and mother were fixtures there for many years and shared boating times with my dad and mother. Always a pleasure to share times with the Gee Gee on Puget Sound, the San Juans, the Gulf Islands and all points north. The seas are calm, the skies are sunny, smooth sailing captain.

Hello to all the Grimms. I didn't know your dad but I knew Pat. I'm sorry for you all. My parents still live down the street from your old house above Boston. I think mom face planted on your sidewalk once. She's better now just a little leaner on the profile:)
My parents are getting ready to sell the house on E. Lynn and that makes me sad for our era, our time, our capitol hill golden age. It does live on.
Grimms are prime time in Capitol hill memories.
What a good man your dad was. Love, Shari McEvoy

Dear Grimm Family

I was deeply saddened to read the paper today. I have contacted my mom and all of my brothers and sister to pass on the sad news.
Dr. Grimm was like a second father to us all. We shared many great times growing up. Sports activities at Seattle U and UW, boating fun, and just plain family get togethers are very much etched in my mind. Rosemary, Donnie, Jackie, MaryBeth, Terry, Danny, Tommy, and Jimmy all send their regrets. We will see you at St. Joes tomorrow

Dear Grimm Family,
It is never easy to lose a loved one. Even when you know it is time, and that they are going to a better place. Dr. Grimm was a great man who certainly left his mark on this earth. He will be missed but never forgotten.
All my prayers,
