James Joelson Obituary

James R. JOELSON March 27, 1934 ~ March 28, 2011 My dad did not want an obituary, but I told him it was not for him. He loved living, as long as he could eat too much, drink too much, talk too much, read, write and make love. I'm sure he talked death to death before finally letting go. When the cancer made it impossible for him to do those things, he was ready to die. He was a good man, autodidact, writer, speaker, advocate, a good friend, a good father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jim aka JJ. Was a brilliant writer, artist, speaker and a very funny person. He had the courage of his convictions. He gave a speech on the American Nazi party marching in Illinois and supported their right to do so under the 1st amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He was a strong advocate of the freedom of speech. His speeches regarding this were ALWAYS passionate and full of fire. His whole demeanor reflected his emotion. Jim was the international best speaker in Toastmasters back in 1983. We will miss you Jim. My warmest love and compassion to his family. Nick

Jim and I were together and married 1969 to 1983. He called me "young stuff", as he was 15 years older than me. His personality filled a room, with a childlike charm and a love for life. I learned so much from him. I wish him all the very best wherever he is. Hopefully there's a New York Deli nearby. He will always have a special place in my heart.
