Joan Hooper Obituary

Joan 'Mom' HOOPER Joan Teresa Hooper entered this world on May 11th, 1931 born in Wyandotte, Michigan to Frank and Rose Salesky. She passed peacefully in her sleep on Satur day, January 22nd, 2011 at the age of 79. She was blessed with a 53 year marriage to her devoted husband Mark Hooper and earned the title of Mom to her four children, Mark, Larry, Jane and Kevin. She was also Mom to their spouses Ginger, Hooper, Carla Hooper, Jeff Hasson and Jennifer Hooper. Her love and nurturing led to the gift of life for her nine grandchildren; Charlie Hooper, Cary Hooper, Amy Hasson, Taylor Hasson, Nicholas Hooper, Kelsey Hasson, Alicia Hooper, Mason Hooper and Emma Hooper. She leaves behind many friends created by her motherly love. Her greatest love was with her husband Mark. This love is so deep that it can only be described as a gift from God. Mark and Joan's love is the divine light to the entire Hooper Clan and every one who knew them. The love, loyalty and faithfulness they shared has already lasted a life time but will last an eternity. Joan was born the seventh child into a large Catholic Polish American family. She had nine siblings. Most of her upbringing fell upon her loving sisters and brothers because their father passed away when she was only ten years old and her mother needed to work to support a fami ly of ten children. Her twin broth er Eugene preceded her in death along with Amelia, Steve, Leo, and Virginia. The surviving family members are Herb, Helen, Fran ny, and Larry plus many nieces and nephews. Joan was educated at Saint Pat rick's Catholic school and attend ed one year of nursing school. She was a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company and was featured as the 'Smile Behind the Dial' advertising campaign be cause of her beauty and her gift of gab. Her most rewarding job was taking care of her husband Mark, raising her children, spending time with her grand children and cultivating loving relationships. She also shared her love and pa renting skills with many children that came to her in-home day care. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to Catholic Commu nity Services in care of Saint Louise. Friends are invited to view pho tos, get directions and share memories in the family's online guest book at www.flintofts.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Flintoft's Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mrs. Hooper was a fine lady. The fact that she could raise, Mark, Larry, Jane and Kevin without going nuts qualifies her for Sainthood. The legacy she nurtured with her love and no nonsense outlook is evident in her children and her grandchildren.
She had the biggest heart of anyone I have known.
If a child(she knew or not)in her neighborhood was in need they knew who to come to. Whether for food, a place to be or sympathy, an ear to listen and a loving, compassionate heart to comfort. She would give it without a thought.
I have many fond memories of talking with Mrs. Hooper while waiting for Larry or Jane or Kevin to get out of bed already. Of course often times she would tell me to wake them up myself and get there lazy butts out of the house. Tough love was certainly a part of her make up.
She also had a bit of the eccentric in her and could come up with some off he wall comments or information.
I will miss all it as I know many others shall also.

Some of my greatest memories were with Grandma Joan. Every minute I spent with her was a new adventure. She was a grandma, a friend, a teacher and a role model to me. I will miss her greatly and wish I could have one last hug.
