John was one of the finest Naval Officers that I had the privilege of serving with. His ingenuity with forming the Detachemnt at Vung Tau with VAL-4 is a tribute to his imagination, loyalty to his men and the pride of always doing his best. Fari winds as you go west my friend.

Memory: I was little, maybe 5 or 6, and we were driving in his pick-up truck/camper with Grandma. It was night time, and we stopped in the middle of the road because it was COVERED with frogs. They were everywhere and Grandpa went out to grab one for me to see close up. According to G & G, I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of sharing the cab with them. But it's still a fond memory and I miss them very much.
