Marjorie Frost "Margie" Barnwell

Marjorie "Margie" Frost BARNWELL Marjorie was born August 19, 1926 in Seattle WA and passed peacefully on March 16, 2011 in Seattle. She is survived by her four children - Sherri Richardson, Debra Olason, John Barnwell and Lisa Barnwell-Monzon and her five grandchildren - David Wright, Jackie Ferry, Joshua Barnwell, Matthew Sharp and Natalie Sharp and great grandchild - Courtney Ferry. Marjorie was many things to many people and a complex, engaging individual. She attended grade school at Highland Park in West Seattle. While there, she was one fast mover on the playfield. Reportedly could easily outrun the boys. Ice skating was another passion in her earlier years. She graduated from West Seattle High school in 1944. She always took great pride in academic achievement and carried this love of excellence throughout her life. Margie passed this discipline onto her children. In addition to her school work - she excelled in writing. She loved to write poetry and she found herself in the role of a fierce advocate by all of her dedicated submissions over the years to the Seattle Time Troubleshooter column. She really knew how to blast an issue in favor of the disenfranchised. She carried this love of writing through a lifetime of correspondence with her close friends. Playing the piano was another favorite pastime. She also discovered a talent for drawing and sketching later in her life. Margie enjoyed square dancing as well and was a vision on the dance floor. Margie's skills as a seamstress were second to none and she also enjoyed embroidery. Not to be outdone by herself, her baking was legendary particularly her pumpkin pie. Her onetime millionaire employer beseeched her for her potato salad recipe including a price tag and, believe it or not, she declined. Professionally, Margie's focus was secretarial and reception. She was employed at numerous companies over the years including Frasier Boiler, Dulien Steel, the Army Corp of Engineers and Washington Machinery. She took great pride in her work and was a credit to her profession. Margie was singularly a class act. She took great pride in her accomplishments. Her family and friends describe her as elegant, taking great pride in her attire, favoring dresses when most women were in pant suits. She valued integrity and trust above all and was discerning in her friendships and loyal to a fault. She was like a fine novel - you had to take the time with the words of her personality to truly understand and appreciate all the vast layers of who she was and will always remain - to us - those who love her still. There will be a viewing at the Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home (3909 SW Alaska St, West Seattle) on Sunday, March 20 from 9AM to Noon, followed by a service at 1PM.
