Bob Altshuler

Marsh touched many lives, including mine, leaving a legacy that will be held dear to many of us here today.

When I was in 6th grade, I was asked by parents of a friend of mine if I would like to play organized football at the Greenwood Boys Club. I rode to practices and games with neighborhood parents every day and participated in organized sports (Greenwood Boy’s Club Midget football team) for the first time.

I lived with my mother, brother and sister back then. Times were tough and we were on public assistance. The Greenwood Boys Club provided me and the other players with greeting cards, so we could sell them and pay our players fee. We all did car washes, too.

Marsh Foerster was the reason Bob Altshuler and many others, continued to participate in Greenwood Boys Club Football. Marsh not only took the time to coach the fundamentals required to be a success on the field, but he took the time to talk with us on a personal level. He showed us compassion, redirected our behavior, and was always positive. He genuinely cared about his players. Marsh took pride in all of us and I really believe he is the reason I got involved in track in college. He was also the reason I chose teaching and coaching as a profession.

I hadn’t contacted Marsh since 9th grade when I called him upon my graduation from college. Marsh was the first person I wanted to see to share my accomplishments. I played college football and graduated with a college degree. I can’t tell you all how many times I have thought about Marsh. I feel his influence in my life helped me succeed in attaining the goals I set in my life, which include 34 years of teaching, coaching thousands of kids on 33 football teams, 33 wrestling teams, 10 youth baseball teams, and also being a father, husband and community member.

Despite having made some bad choices in my life, I really believe God put Marsh in my life to help make a lifelong, positive difference. One of my proudest memories happened just a few years ago. Marsh, Charlie Deardorff and Mike Banks came to LasVegas to watch a high school playoff football game that I coached. The Sunday morning following the game, Marsh attended church with my wife and me. WOW! Marsh had a game plan for his family, his players and also with God.

While we spend today celebrating his life, I am even more excited to know I will be talking again with Marsh someday in heaven.

You will be missed here but have gone on to your waiting Savior. Thank you for adding so many wonderful memories to my life and the one statement I will always remember you by was "do it always the right way". You have done that by the examples of your children! What a wonderful legacy. I look foward to living eternally with you and Chris. I love you my friend!

You are missed greatly here but I know that you have gone on to your Savior and I can't wait to spend eternity with you and Chris. If I remember one thing from you it has always been "do the right thing, no matter what"! You have done it right by the examples of your children - well done friend.

You raised incredible kids, and were a fabulous husband to one of the best mom's I knew. You will be missed, and surly not forgotten.

Kris, Blair and Reagan: Thank you for sharing your father with all of us. As a friend, he showed all of us what a great husband and father looked like. As a coach, he blessed many of our students with his competence and character, leading our golf program to some terrific successes including state championship seasons. I am grateful that his life intersected with mine and the entire community at King's.

The Journey
“After reaching a goal or obtaining something you always wanted you soon realize that your success is not what you have, but how you got it. The amount you enjoy your success will be in direct proportion to the dedication you put forth to achieve your intended end....
