Rita Ryder Obituary

Rita Catherine RYDER 3-16-13 to 1-24-11 Rita Catherine Ryder was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia (Yugoslavia), and immigrated to Seattle with her family in 1923. Mom met her beloved Bill during WWII when his ship came to Bremerton for repairs. They married in 1944 and treasured their life together until dad's death in 1998. She was a devoted and loving mother to her three children: Kathleen Havens (Walt), Rita Maureen Ryder, and Bill Ryder (Peggy) and a wonderful nana to her 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mom was committed to community service throughout her life. She organized a guild to assist low income patients at the King County Hospital on Queen Anne, was President of the St. Anne's Mothers Club, and in the late 1950s, organized Queen Anne Community Improvement, an initiative that received national recognition in LOOK Magazine. She was a successful business woman, establishing a souvenir and travel business during the Seattle Worlds Fair. Later, mom created Ryder Tours, and delighted in taking hundreds of loyal and enthusiastic customers on tours throughout Washington State and the USA. Mom highly valued her family, her Catholic faith, her community and her adopted country. Mom spread happiness and joy everywhere, and was embraced by all who knew her. We love you so much, mom, and will cherish you forever. Our thanks to the staff of Bayview Health Center for their attentive care. A Funeral Mass of celebration of mom's life will be held Saturday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 205 2nd Ave. N., Seattle, 98109. With heartfelt sympathy to all Aunt Rita's family. Although we have not met most of you, we are family still through the love that Aunt Rita shared
with us. We always looked forward to her visits here. She was a wonderful woman who always made us feel part of her family as well. God Bless and keep you all strong in faith and love. You will all be in our prayers.

I feel like a very blessed woman to have had such an amazing and wonderful Nana for almost 42 years. She was ferocious in her love for all her people. She was thoughtful, generous, supportive and encouraging. She is one of my heros and I will miss and love her always. I am the woman I am today because of her example and her commitment to my education. I am grateful and humbled by all that she was for all of us. I find comfort and happiness in the thought of her and Poppy being reunited at last. I am so grateful that Nana had the quality care of the staff at Bayview Manor and the devotion of her daughters. Particular gratitude goes to my Aunt Rita Maureen who lived Nana's example of service in her gentle love and care these last several years. We are all blessed by your gifts.
