Ron was also an avid gardener and great supporter of the new Hazel Heights p-patch community garden across the street from the home he shared with Ken. For instance he helped start all our tomatoes for the giving garden to support the food bank--he left a packet of tomato seeds behind, printed entirely in Russian of course! Here's a link to some photos of Ron at the garden's grand opening (photography donated by our neighbor Didi Anstett): http://didia.smugmug.com/Fremont/Hazel-Heights-P-Patch/Hazel-Heights-Grand-Opening

When he moved to Argentina, his guitar stayed behind until Ken & Lisa carried it down. Here he is getting reacquainted with it. Looks like a G chord

Ron was one of the warmest, most welcoming souls at St Paul's. I remember how he found special meaning in the figure of Joseph in the Christmas story: a man who willingly became a father to a child that was not his own, and became a loving husband to the child's mother, making space for God's light and love in the world. It's easy to see Ron in Joseph's story.
When I told my daughter that Ron had died, she responded that though she'd never known him well, when she was around him she had always felt loved. I think we all did. We will miss you, Ron.
First time we've seen Ron since he began to live in Argentina. He's looking healthy and happy there.

Ron was a great Spanish teacher. Class was fun for students of all levels. He was totally accepting of each student's abilities and respectful of everyone. We will really miss the singing.

Ron was the first one to fully embrace me in the St. Paul's family, and I am so grateful to have known him for the brief time I did. I don't think I've met a kinder, more gentle soul. He is greatly missed.

Ron is a charming gentleman with beautiful voice. He brought extra fun and joy to Talk Time with his guitar. He always greeted me with big smile when I showed up and answered my questions with patience and humor. It's just a short period of time, but I am glad to have known Ron.

I met Ron in Grace Group. Ron offered me a kind of unconditional love and compassionate love that I was hungry for at the time. It was a connection that went way beyond whether our socioeconomic statuses matched or whether we agreed politically. At his death I was on the periphery of his life, but he kissed me warmly on the cheek earlier this spring. The memories of Argentina & the Song Circle will always be there. I will never forget his laugh. Here's to you, Ron. -- Lisa

Among Ron's many talents, he had an interest in botany and knew many of the native plants in our local forests. In Argentina, he had the opportunity to grow mushrooms which he would take to market in a little truck with an engine that sounded like a sewing machine. These were the simple things that gave him much pleasure.
Thank you, Ron, for your friendship and blessings to you in your transition from this life to paradise.

Ron was my roomate. He was a quiet and strong presence. I'm just starting to realize how much I miss him. We had great singing nights here every other week. I'm thankful Ron was with me for about 4 yrs. A great guy. God is looking after him now. Ken Bartanen

Ron had a warm and welcoming presence. Even after I lost my singing voice, he said, "Come to singalong anyway; just be with us." I'm sorry not to be able to get to know him better. Gail Gensler, Seattle
