Today, I learned of Scott's passing and am filled with sorrow and grief. I grew up with Scott, Jane, and Cookie, but never really kept in touch other than sending a Christmas card to the family. I regret that now. Scott nicknamed me Curly when I was about 11 years old and 45 years later the name still makes be laugh. Your family was always very kind and supportive during my family's difficult times, so I am praying that all of you are filled with lots of love, peace, and joy. Scott is now with my brother, Little Jay. I love you all.

To all of the McKee's
It has been a while now since Scott was still with us. Just wanted to check in and say, as so many others have already done, that he was a treasure and we do miss him. We sincerely hope that your family are doing well.

Jill,
With every journal entry that you wrote I clung to each word with a
prayer of hope for the both of you, with every ice chip you gave to
Scott you showed your love in which I was truly in awe of your
relationship. With the birth of baby Ella you shared with us, there
was joy. You showed great strength though this ordeal and made so many
people feel oh so connected. Now, please hold tight to memories for
comfort, lean on your friends for strength, and always remember how much
so many people care.
Sincerely,
Glenn and Laura Casselman

Dear Lola and Family,
Reading the guest book it's striking how Scott was woven into SO many peoples lives. It breaks my heart that he was taken from you and his loved ones so quickly and too young.
Scott was a great guy. He helped me with many projects and fix its and had a special laugh for those times when I had a half baked idea for how to rig something. He'd laugh but help me figure it out none the less!
Scott lives on in the memories of all the lives he touched. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time.
We will miss him very much,

Lola,
I already miss Scott's bemused expression as I described a "complex" repair problem, only to have him steer me to the simple solution.

Hi Lola, Cookie, Jane, and Kay and "Scott's boys",
I personally will miss Scott immensely. He was much more than the guy at the hardware store who knew everything I needed to know and how to fix anything I brought to him but was a good friend, called me 'family' which was a real privilege and I loved him a lot. I am having a hard time realizing that he is gone after such a short illness. He looked good up until the day I left for vacation on Dec. 23rd. He was a brave guy, working hard to battle what he was dealt. I will miss him so much. I know his family is bereft and missing him terribly too. Lucy Cantril

Lola and family,
I was surprised and saddened to learn of Scott's death at the end of the year. We moved into the neighborhood 15 years ago and came to know Madison Park hardware right away as I started to work on our house and on preschool projects.
We have loved bringing in whatever household or zany kid project is in the works for humorous direction. Scott was always up to the challenge of helping us figure out a solution. It is people like Scott who make a neighborhood!
My thoughts are with you,

Dear Lola,
I looked forward to seeing the twinkle in Scott's eye every time I entered the store. He knew I was up to (yet another) "project" and wanted to know the details, alternately offering advice and poking fun. It brings a smile to my face to remember him.
I am so sad for you and the family. I hope you know how much we are all thinking of you.
Very fondly,

To Kay & Boys, Lola, Cookie and the entire McKee clan:
Sudden and untimely death is so hard. It leaves us struggling with grief and bewilderment. Comfort seems unattainable - an abstract concept.
Not long after Jono died, my cousin David Anderson came upon words which are perhaps as expressive as words can be in conveying some measure of hope in the midst of despair.
They come from a Greek, Aeschylus, and were spoken by Bobby Kennedy on the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. I wanted to share them with you:
Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget,
Falls drop by drop upon the heart,
Until, in our own despair, against our will,
Comes wisdom, through the awful grace of God.
We will miss Scott and try to celebrate him a little bit each day. By and by, may you all experience the awful grace of God.
With much love,
Bo, Susan and Annalee

We purchased a century old house twelve years ago and, after meeting Scott, the ensuing weekly visits to MPH were something we actually looked forward to! His depth of knowledge, depth of soul, and quickness of humor meant the world to us and we will miss him in so many countless ways.
Our sympathies go out to his family, and all who knew him.
We have lost a great friend.

Scott was the best; his loss is too sudden and too soon. Scott clearly touched so many people with kindness and wit and will always be fondly remembered. Our hearts go out to you all.

I used to go into the hardware store with my two best friends Blake and Morley when I was a kid, specifically to see Scott and to conceive of mischievous things, like potato guns, water balloon launchers, and the rest. Scott knew exactly what we were up to, loved it, and helped feed our creativity. He could connect deeply with kids like us. I'll never forget. Rest in peace Scott knowing how well you'll live on in our memories.

Dear Lola, Cookie, Kay and boys and Jane,
I think the first thing I did when I moved to Seattle in 1976 was drop into the hardware store to see what was for rent. The saga began and it seems every time I needed help with a toilet, paint, car, babysitter, sprinkler system or 10 shower curtains for my orchid room and last but not least...a place to call home, your family has been my answer. If only I could repay the favor I would.
Scott has been not just the "hardware guy" to me but a valued friend and great source of ..... laughter. I miss him sorely and can only begin to imagine your loss.
The boys and I loved Scott and we love all of you and you are all in our thoughts.

Scott was always a bright spot in my days when I worked at Don's Pharmacy. We perfected a friendly banter over the years and I always looked forward to seeing him. Paul and I will miss Scott terribly. We and our children have almost lived at the Madison Park Hardware store since our move here from a ranch in California 16 years ago. Our kids have always said, 'If you can't get it at the hardware store, it isn't worth getting.' He was always in great spirits and could always be counted on to solve all my varied needs. As I am the handy person in our house, my husband was the last one to meet Scott when we moved here, so when Paul wanted to charge on our account, Scott wanted to know if he was my handyman! We were just so shocked to hear of his loss, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his whole family.

Hey Scott, from now on, our hardware store will forever be out of stock on something we all counted on, and knew we'd find there.
In this season of "It's a Wonderful Life", the turnout to the memorial in your honor on January 2nd was evidence enough to all the lives you touched, and touched by you.

Scott was a positive figure in my life when i was growing up. I remember my best friend Emily and I decided one day to paint my garage pink, green, and bright blue. Scott helped us pick out the paint for what became an odd but cool hangout for the kids in the neighborhood.
He was a great man who had a wonderful sense of humor. Whenever i think of him, i will remember that, as well as walking through the back door of the hardware store and his greeting everytime!
Scott was an amazing man who will be missed by Madison Park.

Lola, Kay , Cookie and family,
Not good news our hearts ache for all of you. To hear how he wished his ashes to be spread left that chuckle in my heart as if I was leaving the store with yet another can of paint!
My daughter silvia so appreciated his thoughtful and fun ways as a young shopper of beanie babies and Paint too!
May the good Lord watch over you.
Sending prayers to all of you.
To me...he will always be in that store...please forgive me if I hear voices the next time I buy my can of paint.

Scott always knew how to help me find whatever it was that I was looking for. He helped me decide on jars for canning my peaches, and I told him how I made grape juice. Scott will be missed, but not forgotten. He helped me take care of household chores myself, never doubting that things would work out...even taught me to wire in a dimmer switch when mine failed. I'm so very sorry for your loss; it was indeed an honor to know him. Carolyn DuPen

Lola and Family- Scott was an invaluable asset to Madison Park. I didn't spend much time with Scott over the years, but I could always count on Scotts' knowledge of the Hardware businesss to help me out. Scott and I go back to the scouting days and the days before that when I delivered newspapers (About 45 years ago!). I used to always come into the hardware and use your phone to get a ride home. The park has changed a lot in that time, but your store remains a classic. Like I mentioned, Scott will be missed by many including me...Steve Lent

Dear Lola and all the McKees:
We met Lola when she came to visit Kirk and Betty here in Hot Springs Village, AR. Our affection for her was immediate. Through you Lola, and Kirk, we came to know a bit about Scott. He has been in our prayers and still is. What a delightful soul... we feel we have been deprived by not meeting and knowing him. We had planned to visit Seattle, one of our favorite cities, JUST to see Madison Park Hardware and meet this infectious man!! We send our sympathies to all who knew and played with him so well.

Small, family owned hardware stores with quirky personality and heart are cherished by my clan. My 82 year old Uncle Bill Round owns Round's Hardware in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Earlier this year I stopped by your store to check it out prior to my Uncle's annual visit. While there I spoke with your son and told him how much I loved the smells and sounds of hardware. He grinned from ear to ear and beamed exclaiming he felt the same way. I could tell by the look on his face that he was a very happy man. I am certain he brought your entire family, friends and neighbors much joy with his warm demeanor and dry humor. How lucky you are to have loved and enjoyed him for his 58 years. He would want you all to remember how much he loved you and to take comfort in that memory.
