Stanley Sulman Obituary

Stanley "Tiny" SULMAN Stanley 'Tiny' Sulman passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Kline Galland Center in Seattle, four days short of his 91st Birthday. Tiny was born in Seattle to Bertha and Nate Sulman on April 16, 1920. He lived in Seattle most of his life, graduated from Garfield High and attended the University of Washington. Tiny married Ruth Rose in 1942 and they soon moved to Prince Rupert, B.C. , where he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. He was drafted into the Navy and spent 2 years in Williamsburg, Virginia and then returned to Seattle in 1946. Upon his return, he and his lifelong buddy, Lou Lavinthal, purchaseda small phonograph record distribution business called C & C Distributors. The business grew to become one of the major distributors in the country and was eventually sold to American Broadcasting Company. Tiny was a fitness fanatic long before it became fashionable. Waking at 5 o'clock every morning, he would meet the guys at Fitness Inc. for a 5 mile run, a session with free weights, followed by breakfast downtown. He continued to run and work out well into his 80's when his knees finally got the better of him. If he wasn't working out, he could be found on the golf course. An avid golfer, he again awoke at 5 a.m. to play so that he could be home early to be with his family. His passion for golf led him to Glendale Country Club, where he and Ruth built a home on the golf course and where he later served as President. August of every year was spent at B'Nai B'rith Mens Camp in Neotsu, Oregon where Tiny met with longstanding friends for a week of golf, horseshoes, baseball, gambling, carousing and basically just reliving his childhood. Tiny will be remembered for his sweetness and kindness, his friendship and warmth, an abundance of friends, his love and affection for his family, and for the joy he gave and received from his beloved grand-children and great grandchildren. He loved sports, both playing and watching, and received great pleasure seeing the kids play their games, playing golf with his two sons and grandsons, and watching his granddaughter's gymnastics meets. He enjoyed extended visits from his California grandchildren and spending time with them in Palm Springs. Fall Saturday afternoons were not complete without lunch at Franco's and a Husky Football game. Tiny was the adored Husband of Ruth Rose Sulman for 68 years. He will be forever loved by his devoted children Harold and Alice Sulman and Stuart and Barbara Sulman; his grandchildren and great grandchildren Jeffrey and Isabelle Sulman, Stephanie, Jonah and Riley Krane, Carin, Scott, Ryan and Luke Jacobson, Scott Sulman, David Sulman, and Emily Sulman. He is also survived by his brother Phil and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Kline Galland Center for their compassionate and loving care. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 11:00 AM at Bikor Cholim Cemetery 1340 N. 115th Street, Seattle. Services will be followed by a reception at Glendale Country Club at noon. Remembrances may be made to the Kline Galland Center in Tiny's honor.

Harold, Ruthie and Stuart

I will never forget the extreme generosity and trust Tiny bestowed upon me (us) in allowing me to drive around Chelan and that gorgeous '59 powder blue Ford convertible! I was just 17/you know what I mean...

As we were passing Tiny's Fruit Stand on the way over I remarked in the back seat "Who's 40 yr old father listens to KJR?!" - radio blaring. So cool.

Love yous

Tiny will always be remembered by Nancy Levine Lamb and her brother Dan Levine. I'll always remember Tiny for his kind heart and sweet demeanor. He was a lifelong friend not just to my parents but to my brother and I. There are so many cherished moments! And in all of these, Tiny was always smiling, happy, and thoughtful. One of the best!
