He is survived by his two younger sisters Rosslyn Parker and Pauline Griffin. After service with the Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater in World War II, Waldo married the former Viola Ann Steinlicht. Viola died in 2001. They raised two children, Waldo Ross Hurst III and Karen Hurst Anderson. After the war, he began his career as an accountant with Utah Ice and Storage Company in Salt Lake City. Promotions and transfers took him to Colorado Springs, Maitland, Florida, Kansas City, Missouri, and Houston. He retired as Division Comptroller with Southeastern Public Service Company in Kansas City. Walt, as he was known at the office and on the golf course, spread his genes to four grandchildren, Adele Hurst, Angie Leadabrand, Michael Anderson, and Waldo Ross Hurst IV in addition to four great-grandchildren Hailey Anderson, Sarah Leadabrand, Kathleen Leadabrand and Jeremiah Leadabrand. Waldo shot a low handicap on the golf course and played as often as the weather allowed. He was the past president of Hillcrest Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri. Waldo also played bridge and manicured the greenest lawn in the neighborhood. He was a kind and gentle man who was much loved and will be missed.
