William Hatfield Obituary

William Brown HATFIELD August 29, 1956 ~ January 20, 2011 Bill passed away at his home in Carnation after a lengthy illness. Bill grew up on Yarrow Point. He graduated from Bellevue High School, and many may remember him as 'your favorite bartender at the Mustard Seed One'. As a younger man he loved his motorcycle, various sports and he climbed Mt. Adams. He always enjoyed traveling with his good friends and with his wife, Judy Bompart. Together they raised several dogs, which were a big part of his life. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Charles Hatfield. He is survived by his wife Judy, his mother, Laura Hatfield of Redmond, his sister Pam Pewe (Jeff) of Kent, sister Penny Kern (Steve) of Seattle, and two nieces Stephanie Frasier of Vancouver and Kimberly Kern of Ridgefield. We will miss his generous heart and his colorful sense of humor. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, February 26th from 2-5 pm at the Goose Pub N Eatery in Bellevue. Please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt.

I spent a ton of time with Bill throughout my high school years. While I can’t share much of this publicly, I have very fond memories of those long gone crazy days. Bill’s cleaver sense of humor was a source of entertainment for me and all the rest of us who were lucky enough to be considered among one of his friends. We went our separate ways after high school and didn’t stay in touch very much but it was always nice to know that I could reconnect with him on occasion by stopping into the “Seed” to say hello.

Billy...thanks for the great friendship and the wonderful memories. You will be missed by me and the rest of our gang from high school and no doubt many, many others.

"Billy Hat" was one of the first people I met when I moved to Bellevue in 1979 and found one of the best neighborhood bars ever, "The 'Seed", as we affectionately called it. "Billy Hat" was always a welcoming sight when I was able to stop by, before, during, and after moving to Alaska, and it was great to know he was still there after moving back to the area in the mid- '80s. I remember one instance when I volunteered to bartend for my boss' "singles" organization and, having never been a bartender before and being totatlly overwhelmed, telling myself "what would Billy Hat do?" Billy, you were a good friend to all who were lucky enough to meet you. RIP, buddy.

I knew Bill in high school and reconnected at "The Seed" through my husband, David. He was known as Billy Hat. Billy had the best personality and THAT smile when he would say "CARE" great gualities in a bartender!! David and I will keep Billy and his family in our thoughts and prayers...God Bless

Bill has been a great friend for many years. When I came to Seattle in 1981 and he was one of the first people I met. The Mustard Seed was the Mustard Seed because he was one of the most legendary bartenders of all time. He will always be in our hearts. Love to his wife and family. Karyl, Byron and Nate Hall
