Cheryl Hawley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 30 to Jul. 1, 2009.
Cheryl HAWLEY 5/21/54 ~ 6/25/09 Edmonds lost some of its sunshine this week. Our dear Cheryl, who had fought so valiantly against ovarian cancer for 1½ years, has gone home to her Father in Heaven. Cheryl will always be remembered as how she loved people. Her charm, intelligence, warmth and grace will be forever remembered by all who ever knew her. Her home was the hang out place with drinks and food and always room at the table. Cheryl created that welcome place and she loved all who dropped by. Cheryl is survived by Paul, her devoted husband of 29 years and her three daughters. Daughter Sara and husband Michael live in Issaquah. Daughters Kathryn and Anna age 20 are students at Eastern Washington University. Cheryl is also survived by her mother Evelyn Fisher of Mountlake Terrace and brother Butch Bicknese and his wife Robin. She has a large extended family and multitude of friends that will miss her very much. Services will be held at the Edmonds United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 2, at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cancer Care Alliance of Seattle or Providence Hospice of Seattle, both of which do wonderful work.

Dear Paul, Sarah, Kathryn, and Anna, I just read of Cheryl's passing and am so shocked! My heart goes out to you all. As our kids have grown, we have not had the opportunity to run into you guys like we use to. I will always remember Cheryl's beautiful smile and how she made everyone feel so welcome. She truly had a heart of gold. My prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

Dear Paul and Family,

I still can't believe she is gone. She fought harder then I'll ever be able too. She taught me so much as a manager and had such a BIG heart. I will miss her always.

Hearfelt condolences for your loss. I was able to attend Cheryl's beautiful service that truly celebrated her life and recognized the extraordinary person she was and how many lives she touched. Cheryl's compassion for others never waned, even during these past few weeks when she was so ill. Imagine my surprise when I received a beautiful card from her, expressing her support with wonderful, caring words because she had learned budget cuts had affected my position. It is a treasured possession because I knew she truly meant every word she wrote.
Cheryl knew that I am a long-term ovarian cancer survivor and participate in the Swedish SummeRun event each year (it's a fund-raising event that supports ovarian cancer research). Last year she had undergone a another treatment that left her too weak to join me. Since then, everytime I spoke with her I would tell her I was looking forward to her joining me at the 2009 event so we could cross the finish line together. While Cheryl won't be able to join me in person, I know her spirit will be with me, walking every step beside me, and we will cross the finish line together.
Take care.

Dear Paul, Sara, Katie and Anna,
Never have I met a more warm, caring, open and honest person than your mother. My regret is that we didnt make the time to spend more time with your Mother and Father, as well as all of you. I have never been more touched and moved than the wonderful memorial serivce we attened today. It has changed my life and made me look at my life, how I raise my childrem, how I interact with Rise and how I can make more of an positive impact on the people around me. I never had to guts to go and see your Mom and your Dad in the last year. I didnt know what to say, nor am I good at being strong and worried about breaking down if I came by to talk. Your family has been in my prayers and will continue to be. Over the years I have watched all of you grow and find your way thru life. Paul always smiling, strong, and positive till the end. Sara, Katie and Anna, all of you have become beautiful, confident, and caring young women. I am not surprised by any of you. You are a strong and wonderfully unique family, that for many of us are an inspiration for our family and anyone who had the honor to know each of you. Today was a celebration of the life of a tremendous Wife, Mother, Friend, Humanitarian and Professional Womman. Everything she did, she threw herself into it fully. Tonight after reflection, Cheryl has helped me after her passing, made me evaluate my life, my goals, and how give back to others in my life, at work, etc. We love all of you and know that each of you carry a special and gifted part of your mother with you. Paul you are nothing short of amazing either. A model husband, father and overall great man. As Cheryl would want it, I won't worry about the past or lost times where we didnt make time to see you more often. We will focus on the future and the times that are before us now. God Bless each of you. Love Greg, Rise & Cassidy Gamble.
