Beverly McDonald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3, 2009.
Beverly L. McDONALD 1927 ~ 2009 Mother, wife, passionate gardener, designer, and civic advocate, died on November 22, 2009. Beverly was born in Berkeley, California, moving to Seattle during high school. She graduated from Lincoln High School, and attended the University of Washington where she met her husband of 62 years, Dixon McDonald. For much of her life she lived in the Magnolia neighborhood where she was active in the PTA, Girl Scouting and garden clubs. She was a student in the art of Bonsai long before anyone knew how to properly pronounce it, as well as a ardent supporter of the Washington Park Arboretum. In the 1980s, Beverly and Dixon were pioneers in Belltown/Pike Place Market living, where she was the driving force behind the lovely courtyard gardens at Market Place North. She was also instrumental in establishing contacts with the city's police and neighborhood residents. Beverly is survived by her husband, Dixon, son Mark (wife Mary) of Walnut Creek California, daughter Kim of Seattle, two grandchildren (Brooke and Megan) and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service is being planned. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made in Beverly's name to the University of Washington Botanical Gardens, Box 354115, Seattle, WA 98145-4115.

I had the pleasure of meeting Beverly through Dixon McDonald when he worked at Highline Medical Center. I have often marvelled at how incredibly devoted she was to their marriage and their long partnership. She was an exceptional person who will be missed by everyone blessed to have known her.

Beverly was one class act! The way she dressed, the way she decorated and gardened. I learned so much from her while serving together on the Landscaping Committee at Market Place North. My thoughts are with your family.

Beverly & Dixon McDonald are two of the classiest people I've ever known. Beverly was a truly lovely person. My heart goes out to Dixon, Kim and Mark and his family during this difficult time.
