Al Grantham was an anchor to windward. A wise and reasonable man, he was outstanding and respected in his professional life, but not above repairing a neighbor's plumbing or pinch-hitting as a babysitter. How much less exciting and fulfilling would our tour of duty in Alaska have been without Al and "Mother Pearl." His family's loss is our loss, too.

i think of Al as a big strong confident commanding personality and i always looked forward to seeing his sly smile, as if he was giggling at some secret he knew. he always let pearl take his reins until she needed him to step in. the girls had a piece of his heart but pearl was the apple of his eye. personnally the best times i can think of with him was at govenor's island when i came up with Jean and John. being taken to the macy's thanksgiving parade with the pincher in the crowd and al stepping in and asking him to move along. then of course there was our visit to the playboy club. what great experiences for a small town gal.....thanks for the memories...they live on....oxoxoxoxo
