Chris's keen sense of humor, love for his family, and love of the outdoors will be treasured memories for my family.

To all of Chris' family: I'm heartbroken for your loss. It is not fair that you've lost such a good man so soon.

To Charlotte and Elliott, your loss is the greatest, but maybe your blessing was also the greatest. Your Dad showed you how to live your lives honorably and with purpose. That's an immense gift. I've seen those qualities in you and I know your Dad was fiercely proud of you. The pain of his loss will ease, allowing you to live happy and fulfilling lives, but it will never go away. It's a reminder of the great blessing he was to you. When you feel the hurt of his loss remember how he loved you, and part of him will always be there for you.

We will always remember Chris as the most positive and energetic person we ever had the pleasure to know. You can bet that those traits were passed on to both of his kids, and to all the other kids he spent time with. We send our best to Marcia, Charlotte, Elliott, Lyle & Betty, Robin and Barbara.

To the Applefords

My deepest sympathies. Although I knew Chris only briefly, I feel I knew him well; because he welcomed me so easily into his life.
If his life can be judged by the week I was honored to spend canoeing with him, he lived a deeper, fuller life than most poeple ever will.
My thoughts are with you all.

I am sorry to have fallen out of touch with you guys. I still fight MS. I cannot walk yet. I miss Chris, but not like you, certainly. Chris will be missed by a lot of people. He inspired many.

Dear Appleford family:
My heart goes out to all of you. Some of my fondest memories at UW are with Chris. He was happy, curious and kind--and so much fun to be with. I hope his good friend Tom Livengood is
keeping him company. God bless...

I have known Chris since the days of Mount Baker youth choir and bell choir. I had not seen him much over the last 20 years but I still considered him one of the nicest people I ever knew. I know his family will miss him and so will I.. rest in peace Chris...

While I did not know Chris, I have had the great pleasure to interact with Marcia not only as a WS Nursery patron but as a past member of the WSGT. My deepest sympathies and condolences to Marcia and the entire family in their time of loss.

With deepest sympathy to Lyle, Betty, Marcia, Charlotte, Elliott and the whole family. I am an old friend of Chris from Penn and I will never forget his creative caring spirit and joyful laugh and a visit to Seattle many years ago. I am thankful I saw this today to remember and reflect as our city is shut down due to the hurricane today. With warmest wishes, Diane Norris and family

I met Chris years ago at what was then called Children's Hospital Summer Camp; we were camp counselors with the Gypsies, taking special needs teens camping which was not a small chore. Chris was an amazing soul, he put up with alot and he gave alot....the world is better for having had Chris in it, and as the world mourns his loss, Heaven reaps the biggest reward..as Chris is up there bringing joy to many people just like he did on earth. My heart goes out to Betty, Lyle, and Chris's family.
